The latest glitch on the site

Post by daytime dave » Sun Apr 12, 2026 12:49 pm

Iran didn't need to activate any local sleeper cells, foreign hackers couldn't have done any more damage, it was an almost "perfect" storm. A comedy of errors where I wasn't laughing.

First of all I started out the day with little sleep from a stomach bug yesterday and last night. Then I used a program to tweak the mesh router boxes to quicken the internet speed. That killed two out of three boxes. Another, top of the line router, non mesh, is to be delivered this evening. The main router box is working ok, but it is tired. I've tweaked the performance on the router boxes weekly for about a year. My new electric percolator arrived this am. Washed it and brewed a pot. A terrible odor, akin to woman's perfume seemed to accompany the brew, even after it was thoroughly washed. Two more pots, same results. Ran two more pots of plain water and still there..........it was something on the cup. My niece used that cup on Easter. Yup, still wreaked of her perfume after a cycle in the dishwasher. Another cup revealed nice, freshly percolated coffee. Next, I was requested to check with the site hosting service to clear up a small glitch. Via AI chat then real human to tech chat, issue was supposed to have been resolved. Oh, by the way, he notices I'm paying for several things that a bundle can do for me less expensively and over greater time span and I can increase the site memory. Ok, will it hurt the site? No he says.

Well, five months disappeared in an instant. It took 90 minutes for him to find and fix his error. He was persistent and I didn't lose my temper. The site appears to be back, I had a late breakfast with my coffee and what else will happen?

Only time can tell. At least the site is working and once again uniting Henry lovers all over the world.

It's not quite 1pm here. Can't wait till bourbon time today. :D

Thank Dave for your efforts!! I have not tried bourbon. I seem to like Crown Royal, apple flavored. Maybe, I may try bourbon one day?

Wish I were closer so I could pour that drink for you Dave. Thanks for your efforts. Your day sounds like some we have, in fact right now my Centruy Link email is completely down. I click the reset link and I get……oops something went wrong….grrrrrrrr of course no contact over the weekend is available.

I didn’t notice the site being down so I must have avoided the window of misery.

I've had to sign in several times in last 2 days. Other than that, fine.

These are the kinds of things that often stop me from making "improvements" to things. The old one step forward, two steps back thing. But getting the issues and complications resolved, and eventually finishing up at a point better than where you were before, that's rewarding.

Thanks for dealing with all this stuff and for what you do for this site Dave.

Thanks for all your efforts Dave. Glad you got the coffee thing figured out. That can help a bit.

It makes me nostalgic for the days of dusty libraries, encyclopedias, and oak card catalogs to search for books. My Great Grandmother worked for decades at the main library in Gainesville, Florida. She repaired books in a large room in the basement. Mostly fixing the broken covers and spines. When I'd visit her for weeks in the summer, we'd walk to the library, and I'd spend all day wandering among the books. Heaven.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.
