I remember getting a cartoon of smokes for about $7.00 on base. I was doing a fitness readiness test and did not do as well as I would like. As such, I was provided with the option of participating in an aerobic class. During that time, I stopped smoking as well. In order not to start back buying cigarettes, I started putting $25.00 a month in savings; so, I did have the money available, even if I wanted to smoke. Next time around, I did better on the fitness readiness test, and I still put the $25.00 a month into savings. But now, the $25.00 a month has grown to a few hundred a month. Just cutting out one bad habit has allowed me to live a more healthier and less financial stressed life. But, I do still drink beer.Sir Henry wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2026 4:43 pmIn 1986 a pack of smokes ran about $1. At a pack a day that’s $365 a year. If you bought $365 worth of Microsoft stock in 1986 it would be worth around $800K today.
My neighbor who is my age is a heavy smoker and is always broke. I remind him of that fact every time he asks me for $20.![]()

No, I have a 1860 Colt Richards cartridge conversion. But here in Chinada now can’t buy handguns or sell them. If you own one and want to shoot it, need special permit from RCMP to take it to the range and back. Stop for a coffee along the way and get caught with it? No more firearms for you, big fine and maybe some criminal charges along with it.dave77 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2026 3:14 amDidn't you have a single shot black powder pistol? Maybe I'm thinking of somebody else.RanchRoper wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2026 12:20 pmSpring weather here. Been camping even through the cold and snow we had. Considering selling my reloading gear and cartridge guns. May divest of all but my flintlock. It’s all I shoot anyway.
I remember a couple of rendezvous's that had a pistol trail walk. One was a rifle, pistol, knife and tomahawk trail walk and you even had to set a medium sized trap.

Good reason to only keep a flintlock which isn’t classified (yet) as a firearm, but an antique regardless of date of manufacture.

So you have to shoot a handgun at a public range? Is it OK to shoot your flintlock at home on a safe shooting range and could you also shoot a pistol like mine at home?RanchRoper wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2026 12:55 pmNo, I have a 1860 Colt Richards cartridge conversion.
