Hate to think about the submersible pump in my well. Put in in 1986 so it could go anytime. It's at 320 feet and on galvanized pipe. I've been told it will be several thousand dollars to replace, a lot of the cost in labor. Hopefully won't take too long to replace, I had to haul water for a few months but I was much younger then and I could still shower and do laundry at my mom's.

Last year we had to replace ours at the cottage. 720 feet of galvanized pipe had to be craned up and out. They replaced it with a special type of PVC rated for that kind of depth. Took them about half the day.

You guys really go down for was. I think I’m at about a hundred feet. At least I have good tasting water. Around here it’s hit or miss.

My well is 350 ft. It was drilled in 1998 and was idle until we bought the property in 2015. Before closing on the deal we hired the local well drilling company to drop a pump in it and run a flow test. Man that was some ugly water that came out at first. I read somewhere that the life expectancy of a well pump is 10 years. Hope that’s not true as this is year 10 for our pump. We lived 12 years at our last place and the well pump was in place for an unknown amount of years prior. Never had a problem with it.

We've been here just over 30 yrs and replaced the pump 3 or 4 times. The well is 108 ft with the pump at 55 ft. The water is terribly hard. Iron/Sulfa/Calcium. Undrinkable, but we have reverse osmosis filtration for drinking. We also have a dual tank commercial Iron water softener. Ground here, 100+ feet, is all sediment from the ice age Missoula floods. On the surface great dirt for wine grapes. Drilling wells here is problematic. Between 15 and 50 ft there is beautiful fine gray sand. Using a typical drill bit, the sand just collapses into the bore hole. Takes a special hollow drill bit to hold back the sand until the well casing is dropped inside it. Pre-iceage the area was likely an estuary. Lots of clam like shells come up in drill tailings.
