Prentice High School basketball

[Sir Henry]

I’ve been going to the local high school basketball games. They are 6-1 in conference and 8-2 overall. Tonight they were on fire.

At about 92 points with four minutes left they began to slow down and let the clock run out. That’s when the crowd started yelling “we want a hundred” and they responded.

It’s great living in a small town where I know half the kids.

I understand perfectly. I spent my sophomore year living outside a small town in North Dakota. I enjoyed playing basketball but wasn’t near good enough to even think about trying out for the team at my Spokane high school. In NDAK I joined the team being a bench warmer on the B squad. What I quickly realized is how supportive the locals were. It was amazing how far the families of all the teams would travel to watch a game. Like the area Sir Henry lives in every small town had a high school and we traveled to many for games as did other teams travel to us. Fun times.

Yes there are seven of us that do a lot of things together. We are talking about going to the road games now. I spoke with the school superintendent about renting a 55 passenger school bus.

GROAN. When I read this last night I didn’t get it but this morning with the proper amount of coffee it jumped right into my head.

Tonight we had our second 100 point game in a row and the crowd went wild. For a small one school district we excel at sports. I think it’s partially because the stands are packed with fans.

How long are the half’s? As I recall when I was in high school we played four quarters but I see on the scoreboard a 2 as in 2 halves. That’s a lot of points for a high school team to put up.

They play 15 minutes, take a 15 minute break and then play 15 more minutes. From tipoff to buzzer it’s about 90 minutes. Yes 100 points is a lot for 30 minutes playtime. Compare that to four 12 minute quarters in the NBA.

I just checked and halves are 18 minutes so it’s 36 minutes of play. Another home game tonight then one on the road.

They won again yesterday. They were ahead by 50 points midway through the second half so they used the mercy rule and let the clock run out with minimal play. It’s not that we are super good it’s more like the other teams are super bad.

I sure hope the team is getting some looks by college recruiters. That’s pretty amazing to score like that

They play a 1979 Lakers “showtime” pace.

They won again last night and play again on the road Friday. Eight of us in our group are going and I expect a few dozen others as the game is just and hour away. They are 10-2 with both losses close and the victories blowouts.
