The big winter storm a comin!

Thursday and Friday I thought my weather station outdoor temperature sensor was broken, it seemed to be stuck on 33°.

Here's a clip of the local temps from Friday. Looks like a couple of big temperature changes but the range is only 1°.

Here at my location in upstate NY the National Weather Service is saying 18 to 24 inches of snow.
I have a pellet stove and several tons of pellets remaining in storage.
If the power goes out, I have a generator and fuel for the generator.
But most important, I also have an Orange shovel and fuel for it.
Back about four+ years ago, we got a three foot snow event, and the snowplow berms at the ends of the driveway loop were
very close to six feet tall before they settled.
Shoveling out the complete driveway and the huge walls of snow at the ends of the driveway loop by hand would have been enough for at least a few heart attacks.

Well, I was hoping for a little snow. It can make for some great picture opportunities. We got a little rain overnight, and the temp is now 31 degrees. High for today is supposed to be 60, with rain this evening and a low of 45. I'm going to dig out my gloves and a sweater and head over to Magnolia and see if the birds are nesting.

Sun Jan 25 ... 23 (RealFeel 12) at 9:30AM .... the huge ice storm impacting about half the county is passing through our area and will be with us most of the day .... a little snow with a sheet of ice, nothing pretty about it .... so far only one power outage for a couple of hundred homes/businesses .... forecasted high today 35 followed by a low tonight of 32 .... very odd for us to have only a 3 degree difference between our high and low .... looking outside, ice can be seen on plants/trees but none seem to be dropping .... that said, the storm is far from over

It started to snow here about 2 hours ago. It's coming steady, but not too strong at the moment. It was -4 F last night when we came home from dinner out with Mary's brother and his fiance. It's currently 4 F. I filled the bird feeder so they would make it through all right.

I have two Kubota BX tractors, the above pictured BX 25 used for snow removal and dirt loader/backhoe jobs and occasionally running a four foot Bush Hog. The second machine is a BX 2370 and that unit has a 60 inch mid mount deck and is only used for mowing grass.
Occasionally, the BX 2370 is asked to move a trailer or two around the driveway or yard.
With the two machines permanently set up as they are, there is almost no implement swapping.
Less wasted time & skinned knuckles.

17 degrees this morning with about 4 inches of snow at 1045am. Been showing since middle of the night. Currently snow has ago . Stay safe and warm my Henry forum family members.

I have a Kubota 3710 with loader, blade, and a 50 inch front mounted snow blower. It has a cab with AC and heat.
It gets so warm in the cab that I turn the heat down and take off my jacket even at 0 temps.
I have not mounted the blower and might not. I also have my old 1983 Bronco with a blade that runs good.
I plow our drive, .3 mile long, along with two neighbors with similar drives, and a half mile service road.

Behind the 3710 you can see the 8N Ford with a Superior loader. I moved snow with that for many years
before my Wife decided I was just too old, (85), to use that thing in the cold.
Good woman.

Well, I made it over to Magnolia. Took me about 10 minutes to scrape the thick layer of ice off the windows of the car. No ice on the roads. It wasn't that bad at Magnolia. The only issue I had was my hands were cold, despite the gloves. Some really neat looking fog over the river for the entire morning. Almost no ice, as Magnolia is closer to the ocean. Supposed to rain this evening, but the temps will remain well above freezing til it's past.

Well our local weather dudes blew this storm up like a huge weather ballon and when it finally made it here we got like 3 inch of snow...more sleet than snow for same total amount and very little freezing rain. Started out in the Advisory all week as 14+ inch of snow and heavy ice...no power for weeks! All the big box stores and grocery stores made a fortune but as of today no power out anyplace around me and my Generac DID fire up for its routine 10 minute Monday test run which is about all it gets to do in its 3 years of use so far. Facebook Marketplace around here will be full of generators for sale soon and folks around here will enjoy French Toast until Summer!

I did get to enjoy clearing out my drive way of the 3 inch of snow sleet mix with the Kubota yesterday!

It's 9 F outside. I would say we got at least 12 inches of snow since yesterday. When I took Copper out for his morning routine, he was thrilled. He loves running and bounding through the deep snow. Pretty good for a Texas rescue dog from SanAntonio who had never seen snow before. He took me right to the dog park to do just that. The Snow was almost over my knee high boots in places. It's snowing gently now. I'm in no hurry to go out and snow blow the driveway, so I'll wait until after noon. Most everything is closed in the greater area. Like Forty said, you'd have thought Russian Missles were bringing the bad weather the way it was hyped up.
I hope everyone stays warm and dry today.

Yep, what we locals call the “snowmegeddon” forecast. We get these from time to time and 90% of the time we may see 2-3”

Now that the storm is over I turned the heat off upstairs and turned it down downstairs to 68 from 70. The odds of loosing power is lower and the temperature is higher. Lows will be minus single digits and highs will be positive single digits.
