A little unplanned upgrade this morning. Site is working ok it seems.
Stevens Mod 15B...update
Re: Stevens Mod 15B...update
Wow, it’s like you time traveled back to the 50’s and bought a couple of 22’s. Nice.
Re: Stevens Mod 15B...update
Sir Henry.....earlier in this thread you mentioned that you had a Marlin 100 as a boy. When I bought this gun I assumed this hole was a product of some Bubba gunsmithing. Upon closer examination it's obvious that this ain't no bubba hole. I'm guessing factory done but I'm wondering what went in there. Do you have any recollection of what it might have been for? Approximately 5/16"

If it's a Marlin, it could've been one of their signature bullseye's.

For what it's worth, my Ranger 103-8 does not have that hole; Sir Henry has described it as being the very same rifle as a Marlin 100.

Here’s a picture of the Marlin bullseye the guys were talking about. At one time you could purchase a replacement from Marlin but I don’t know if that’s still the case now that Ruger owns Marlin. I understand that Marlin put the bullseye in the bottom of the stock to make them stand out when displayed in a rack behind the counter at gun shops. But that could be urban legend…..

The new bullseye's are a different color now that Ruger is building them.Hatchdog wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 9:40 amHere’s a picture of the Marlin bullseye the guys were talking about. May be able to find some on flea-bay. They are a bit long so most cut them in half. Even if this isn't a Marlin, it would still be an easy and attractive fix.

Re: Stevens Mod 15B...update
I believe you gents have solved this mystery. Hatch's picture makes it pretty obvious. I've never had any experience with E-Bay but may check with Numrich Arms first.
The little Marlin 100 cleaned up real well. I spent a some time with a gentle session of 0000 steel wool and oil on the few freckles on the metal. Then Old English "dark" scratch cover on the wood. A little lubing and scrubbing and it looks pretty doggone nice!
I ran a few rounds of CCI "Quiet LR" through it and firing pin indent is solid, ejection good and appears the sights were right on.
Another question for you Marlin folks....The barrel is marked "Microgroove" and it definitely is. Would that mean it's fairly recent production? Like maybe the 50's or newer?
EDIT TO ADD......I just realized how much I dated my self with the 50's being "recent"!!!

Re: Stevens Mod 15B...update
Very nice there, 5shot.
As far as the microgroove rifling, it was introduced in the rimfires first, around 1953.
Not at home at the moment so I can't reference my Brophy's book.

Great minds think alike Vaquero, I took this pics last night from my Brophy.

Re: Stevens Mod 15B...update
Thank you for the research Hatch!! RP...Seems like your rememberer ain't too far off. I would guess at 1957-59. The gun is a microgroove, walnut stock, stamped steel trigger guard with a 22 inch barrel.
I still wonder how they would price this at $39 but the sales guy made it clear that this category of gun couldn't be returned. If you bought it and it doesn't work it's your problem.
I'm just finishing the Sears Roebuck Model 25 auto loader. Hoping to get all three of these bargain specials to the range tomorrow or Monday. Stay tuned.
