A Christmas Story
I love the movie and watched it for the first time this year. I usually will watch it three or four times a season but one year I watched it end to end seven times on TNT. The leg lamp in my window was moved to the side because I didn't know what the neighbors would think. Well last night I was at the neighbors while several other neighbors where there and everyone said I needed to move it back to the center. One even added I should buy the Red Ryder. Well I already have one so I propped it up in the side window where the lamp had been.
Its great to live in a neighborhood where people appreciated my quirkiness. I've lived here for 29 years and some of the neighbors have lived here that long also.

I'm a fan also of A Christmas Story
Have it on dvd,but usually wait and watch it Christmas day.
Being an Ohio native, filming was done and the house is in Cleveland and have seen for years that you can stay 2 days and 2 nights in it.
Also tours and such, the auction to stay in it xmas eve is over, but here's a link to the house

It's nice to live where people know you, and neighbors look out for each other. All too often these days, people keep themselves to themselves, and the only time you get to hear from them is when they want to complain.

Amen to that. We know all our neighbors and we all look out for each other. Really adds to the quality of life for us all.Les wrote:It's nice to live where people know you, and neighbors look out for each other. Re: A Christmas Story
These "good things" happened when we lived in our house in southern WI. Great neighbors always chatting and helping each other out. Since we've been apartment dwellers for about 7 years now, most "people keep themselves to themselves," as you said. Really sad here at times...we like to neighbor and be good neighbors....often we don't even know when someone moves.North Country Gal wrote:Amen to that. Re: A Christmas Story
We are having a farewell party for a neighbor that has lived here for 25 years. It's also a welcome party for the new neighbors.

Good neighbors are a great thing.
Got some myself, Mom's one
BTW, the Christmas Story house comes with a leg lamp.

Also a fan of the movie and watch it just about every year. A friend of mine owns a house that is designed just like it. One of the greatest things about that movie is how many of us can relate to how things actually were back then. Very realistically done.

I guess there is something wrong with me because I am 71 and I have never seen it. I will make an effort to see when it is on this year and watch it. My favorite has always been "A Christmas Carol", the original version from 1938. I watch it every year when it is on TV.

I don't think it has anything to do with an apartment PT. It's occurring all over, faster in some places.PT7 wrote: Since we've been apartment dwellers for about 7 years now, most "people keep themselves to themselves," as you said. I believe it's a combination of climate controlled homes, evenings occupied with multi-media, the decreasing influence of religion, and so on. Basically we don't need to occupy our time talking to others, unless of course it's on the Henry forum.

I hadn't thought about that before, Henry88....interesting comment. Since this is our first stint in apartment living, it has been quite a different experience for us.

Can not think of a better movie to watch on Christmas Eve and day. I myself used to daydream of shooting marauding Indians and other bad guys. Just love the movie.

I think the funniest part of that movie is when that China-man cuts off that duck's head. Hilarious.

Re: A Christmas Story
My favorite scene is the one in which Ralph daydreams about his teacher getting overcome by ecstasy after reading his brilliant essay on the Red Ryder. Then she goes to the chalkboard and writes A ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++.
A girl who ended up breaking my heart introduced me to that move in about 1988 and I've watched it every year since.
