Wow, congrats to all the hunters mentioned above. This post started during the HRF apocalypse so I missed it. Glad to get caught up and see these nice bucks. Can’t wait to get to vaquero’s story in another post. :D

My season was a bust. Saw no deer at all. Did watch a few squirrels with the zoomies, a Blue Heron and some geese.

3 days later a few does and a large buck decided to stop by. Last night at 4am had two does in my yard. They are figuring out this whole deer season dates.

There is always next year. The solitude and break from work was a reward in itself, so no complaints.

Nothing special, just meat for the freezer. I like the tenderloin and sirloin for steaks, everything else is run through the LEM commercial grinder and is turned into garlic/black pepper venison jerky. It's actually more like a Slim Jim meat stick.

Next to the last day of regular firearms season today. Black powder/muzzleloader starts 12/8 and should be some fun times for me and my son.

This.

Plus this.

Equals this. Some tender venison for the freezer. I'm the camera guy, and there wasn't anyone around for taking my photo.
The deer already has the lower legs cut off with big shears, on the floor at the deer processor.

Nice going there cee Kamp, and with the revolver. ;)
I had the SBH out this evening, and had a chance on a decent little 6 point at around 30 yds., but let it walk.
I wanted to shoot him, but talked myself out of it.
Maybe the grandson will kill it, he'll be here tomorrow and all next weekend.

Even though our NY southern zone black powder/muzzleloader late season restarts again after Christmas, my son & I pulled the plug on the 2025
deer season a few days ago. He is busy until the New Year and I have things going on at the house that require my presence.

Every single hunter at my hunting/recreational property harvested a deer, and one guy harvested two. It was a great year for us!

The new Cuddeback/Cuddelink trail camera system has provided real insights into deer movement on the property.
I recall the system being installed on August 27th plus/minus a few days.
We have learned more in the roughly three months using the new camera system than we had learned in the prior 20 + years of property ownership.

Congratulations to all the successful hunters!

I spoke too soon.
Deer season wasn't over for me, I got another deer tonight.
Unfortunately for me, I got it with the Toyota truck!

So far, one coyote. Still a couple of weeks left in the South Carolina deer season so I remain hopeful.

Well, luck was on our side this morning, the grandson and I. We got out to the hunting shack about 6:30, he saw 2 deer in the hay field that's just the other side of the hog lot 10, 15 minutes after we arrived. Then right before 7 this doe walks out around 120 yds. I tapped on the leg, he was playing on my phone. He jumps up, gets on the gun, I asked. You got her? She's walking ,he said yep. Looks like she's going to just keep walking, so I made a little bleeting noise and she stop. I said there ya go. He double lunged it and just missed the heart. Didn't bleed to amount to anything. Took a little while riding around in the direction she had went. We saw about the same time, she wasn't dead yet. So I jumped off to grab the rifle and she's up and off down the hill and looked like she went down. So we sat for a couple mins, then eased down there and went right by her under a big cedar. Grandson eventually found it, but had to give it another shot.
He was tickled, first one this year, by this time last year had already gotten 2 of the 3 he got.

And then I we t to work. ;)
