It was +16F in the shop this morning. I had to build a fire at 8 am so it will be warm for the 3:25 Packer game.

Good morning from central W TN this AM, some of y'all up north must have left the fridge door open last night, as you weather has slipped down here.
It's 18* and feels like 13, with the high of only 28 at some point, then another dip into the teens by tomorrow morn.

Right. I didn't go this morning. The grandson and I slept here in the man cave and I woke to a text from the wife.
She was in the bathroom floor, apparently since around 2 with some kind of stomach bug.
Got her to bed. She's on the couch now, but definitely not well.
I'm hanging out in the cave, keeping a fire going and holding down the recliner.
Only 23 here at noon outside, and a nice 75ish in here.

RP, looks like that cold is heading here today. 50 degrees this morning dropping during day with gusty N wind. Low 30's by end of day and heading to low 20's next couple nights. Big change.

Dang, all the way down there, oh my.
We're suppose to get back down into the teens again tonight, high tomorrow around 40 then a slight warming trend for the rest of the week.

because of the forecasted cold, we cut our last club campout for this year short and returned home yesterday .... the lowest overnight temp I've seen is 16 which I believe is a new record low for this date .... its up to 20 at 9AM, our anticipated high for today is 38, tonight's low 21 .... after getting home yesterday we winterized our daughter's camper which is a fairly time consuming process .... all that is required for ours is to connect it to our 500 gal propane tank and set the thermostat to its lowest setting .. .. nothing I'm aware of that will take us away from home today but that is always subject to change at any second

40 and raining this morning. This is the beginning of another big rain event coming into the Northwest this week. Big rains again along with big winds again too. Here around my place we’re looking at gusts around 40 mph with 50 - 70 mph in the mountains. More flooding in Western Washington and North Idaho is expected just when folks are starting to get the messes cleaned up. Sorry for them.

Cooling down by the end of the week with maybe some snow and normal winter temps arriving.

Yesterday we put up the limited Christmas decorations we do with the exception of a couple of lit deer. My wife wants me to put them out on the top of the hill above the road and this weeks wind could blow them away. I’ll wait on them.

That sure is a nice sized firebox on your stove. Bet that number of prestologs puts out a great volume of heat. That’s good with the amount of cubic feet you need to heat. My stove is a small one with just a 16” x 16” firebox so I have to cut my firewood at 15”. I sure am impressed with how hot and how long those prestologs burn. I burned two yesterday along with some regular wood and last night when I set up the fire for this morning I still had hot coals so couldn’t complete prepping the fire.

This is the pic I was trying to attach to this post. What a difference in firebox size. Sir Henry’s stove is for sure a man sized unit. Mine……..well But it does a great job in the small space I have it.

41 and windy this morning. I saw 55 on my thermometer when the storm rolled in on a warm front. Another atmospheric river or as we called them when I was younger a Pineapple Express. Called that as the weather comes from Hawaii directly to the northwest bring very warm temps. Windy today but the big stuff comes in tonight around 10:00 with some possibly damaging gusts above 50mph. Once this storm passes we are expected to return to more normal winter temps with some snow in the forecast for the weekend. Our mountain passes in the Cascades are expected to receive snow at pass level in the 2-4 feet range and the passes to the east heading to the Rockies 1-2 feet. Good for the skiers for sure.

finally, an above freezing morning temp .... 33 at 10AM, anticipated high of 48 .... projected of our coming overnight low of 25 .... next few nights slated to be above freezing .... Maureen has some medical testing this morning .... anticipate a Walmart stop on the way home to pick up supplies

I normally don’t slice them up this small because they burn too fast. It got up to about 7F outside and I had it 72F inside. People were complaining about how hot it was. The stove is a Fisher Grampa Bear.

They've always been called a Chinook here, I see that they are the same phenomenon but usually the rain is a lot lighter or absent after it passes over the Cascades. We did get strong winds here and maybe an inch of rain but they did get more rain further north. Some flooding along the Wenatchee river but nothing like Western WA got.

My weather station showed a gust of 30mph but I saw that at the top of Mission Ridge they got a 112mph gust.

Going to be awhile before Stevens pass ski area will open as there's no predicted date for the pass to reopen, and Leavenworth Christmas tourist season will be hurting as it will be quite awhile before they fix the Tumwater Canyon road. I guess people will still be able to come over using Snoqualmie and Blewett passes but that's a longer route for northern westside traffic.

I’ve been seeing that one around and that’s a perfect example for others around the nation of what the west side and north of you experienced last week. For most of my life I thought the term Chinook was Salish for Snow Eater but I did some research last year and found out that was just an old wives tale. Interesting info that the Pineapple Experss is the rain and Chinook is the warm wind left after the Cascades sponges off the moisture.

For you others who may be wondering what Salish is here’s a quick link to a local Native school that teaches Salish, the language spoken my the Native’s around here prior to English.

Tonight's news says the Tumwater canyon section of Stevens Pass could be closed for months. Parts of the highway in Tumwater Canyon will have to be completely rebuilt. They can detour around Tumwater Canyon using Chumstick Highway from Coles Corner to Leavenworth's east side when they get the rest of the highway that wasn't damaged as severely opened back up.
