Rob "Meathead" Reiner

Both Rob and his wife Michelle were found dead in their home on Dec 14th. The police are investigating this as a homicide.

Though I didn't care for his politics, in fairness, he wouldn't have cared for mine.
I admired his skill as a writer and director. He directed one of my favorite movies:

"Stand By Me."


I hope he and both his wives rest in peace.
Laverne has already passed.

This is very sad news. He will be greatly missed. Stand By Me, Spinal Tap, and The Princess Bride stand out as three great films that will long be admired.

Their son had been in and out of rehab since he was a teenager. He was also a homeless individual at times. Very troubled for sure.

I did not agree with many of his opinions, but in fairness, he wouldn't have agreed with many of mine.
To get to the point where a family member takes this kind of action is cataclysmic for sure.
Was this son from the current marriage, or from his marriage to Penny Marshall? If from the former marriage, then there are probably logs on that fire that none of us will ever know about.

His current marriage. I did a bit of reading, and he had adopted penny's daughter tracy during their ten year marriage. They had no other children. He had three with Michelle.

I read this this morning and thought it would be unlikely that you'd see it, so I copied a link to share here.

I’ve written a lot of fiction, but “The Body” remains the only nakedly autobiographical story I’ve ever done. Those kids were my friends. We never walked down a railroad track to see a dead body, but we got up to other stuff. The story was about my reality as I had lived it on the dirt roads of southern Maine. There really was a junkyard dog, although his name wasn’t Chopper. There really was a kid who went swimming and came out covered with leeches in surprising areas, but it wasn’t Gordie Lachance; it was me.

And there really was a kid who was accused of stealing milk money, although his name wasn’t Chris Chambers. He did borrow — we won’t call it stealing — his mom’s Bel Air. With me riding shotgun, he drove it 90 miles per hour down Route 9 in our backcountry hometown. We were 11...

...Much later, after Rob had become an auteur and I had become whatever it is I became, we met in New York. At his behest I took part in a political documentary about how little liking we had for Donald Trump. Rob took a lot of brickbats and slurs for it on Twitter with his customary grace. (I refuse to call it X; that’s for porno films.) He was a political presence, a social commentator and a wicked satirist. But all that still pales for me when I watch Chris Chambers say to the weeping Gordie Lachance: “You’re gonna be a great writer someday.”

That weeping boy was me. It was Rob Reiner who put it on the screen.

Thanks CT, I appreciate the information. I have watched a number of King's video interviews, most on writing. In most, he avoids the politics and shares his views on the process and advises new writers. I have MOST of his books and several of his books on tape, read by King himself, and several of those have interviews following the book being read.

Over the years, I have tried to avoid mixing the political with the artistry and just watched the movies or read the books. A few of them made it hard to avoid.
