Thanksgiving 2025
wondering how many of our folks will be traveling for Thanksgiving ???
we will and with Thanksgiving only a few days away, we are finalizing our plans .... we will be traveling from our home in south central NC to Asheville in the mountains of western NC .... for the last few years my wife and I have been joined by our daughter and her son in traveling to my youngest sister's home where our family gathers for the holiday .... this year we will be joined by two babies who our daughter is fostering until they can be reunited with their mother .... our issue is we don't have a 6 passenger vehicle so we are going to have travel in 2 .... our daughter will be driving our Blazer along with my wife and the 1 & 2 year old .... my passenger in our new truck will be our 8 year old grandson .... about the only thing I'm sure of is they will get much better mileage than we will ... we plan to travel west on Wednesday and to return home the following Friday

We had a Friendsgiving here at the RV park tonight and we have also been invited to the Thanksgiving that the park manager is having for family. So we will walk about 50 yards to ours. The one today was very nice.

This will be a small one unfortunately. Only the youngest daughter and her family, but Carol loves to cook so I'm sure it will be a complete feast.

Re: Thanksgiving 2025
We will be on the road Thursday morning. Traffic is usually light for the 330 mile trip to Virginia Beach. My wife’s sister hosts the mob at her house. Usually a turn out of thirty or so. We will return Home on Sunday, traffic usually sucks then. Turns a 5 1/2 hour drive into 6 1/2 to 7..
Load on Sunday and Shoot all Week.......okay it's a Mare's Leg I will reload on Wednesday.

Re: Thanksgiving 2025
well, as always, our absolute and final plans are subject to change at any second .... late yesterday afternoon Maureen had her first ever attack of Vertigo .... bottom line, we've had to cancel our Thanksgiving trip had to be cancelled
Re: Thanksgiving 2025
I can hardly contain myself in anticipation of tomorrow. Tomorrow we will have the traditional South Carolina Thanksgiving meal of baked possum stuffed with sweet taters. I would invite all of you to join us but it's a small possum.
Re: Thanksgiving 2025
Not being from the south I wasn't sure about your post until I googled "possum and sweet potatoes"
. Having a Scandinavian family on my mother's side this is the time of year we would have been having lefse and lutefisk, liked the lefsa, didn't care for the lutefisk but my uncles loved it.

Re: Thanksgiving 2025
I though the usual feast there was a seven course meal.
A possum and a six pack.

Re: Thanksgiving 2025
My brother has four married daughters, three of whom live within ten miles of their childhood home and where he hosts Thanksgiving dinner. He has five grandkids from those three, two of whom are in college and everyone is expected to be there. He and his kids have lots of friends, so the house will be full.
I live forty miles away and plan to arrive a half hour before the bird is carved. I'll hug and kiss everyone once or twice, eat very little, drink a couple, and leave early enough to get home before dark. My contribution will be three pounds of some of the best beef jerky I've ever made. Perfect spices and texture. Mmmm.

Mighty sorry to hear that Jim. Take care of Maureen and do the best you can.

The family is too poor to enjoy such a sumptuous feast but there are hopes afoot that tomorrow Uncle Cletus will bring an unopened jug of his almost famous squeezins.
If he does and if history repeats itself, no one will recall much of the baked possum and sweet potato meal.
Only in South Carolina. Too small to be an independent nation and too large to be an asylum.

Re: Thanksgiving 2025
good wishes appreciated .... as this is being typed Maureen is doing pretty good .... an hour ago that wasn't the case ... biggest issue right now is, due to the holiday, her prescriptions won't be filled until tomorrow .... our daughter was supposed to go to Western NC for Thanksgiving but with Maureen being sick she chose to stay home .... we told her that no fancy Thanksgiving meal was necessary but she wouldn't hear of it .... she'd never cooked an entire one but that didn't bother her at all .... below is one of our plates .... corn, lima beans, real Irish mashed potatoes, real sweet potatoes , dressing, turkey with plenty of gravy .... considering she's single, fostering a 1 year old and 2 year old in addition to her 9 year and 3 dogs, we are very proud of her for doing all of this .... we are settled in watching pro football

Re: Thanksgiving 2025
Late to the party but our Thanksgiving trip is a quarter mile up the road to a neighbor’s house. Due to the cold rain, two pies, two Cool Whips, and two bottles of wine we made the trip in the car. Our CA kids stayed home but wanted us to fly down. We declined due to the recent travel issues with the airlines. Our local kid went to some friends place. It was a very nice thanksgiving just the same.
Shucks, no possum on the menu…..

Turkey here got pardoned. We took it out on the pig and chicken. Sides of dressing, mashed gold potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallow sauce and home made crescent rolls. Apple and pumpkin pie to finish it off.
