The Hawken dropped one.

Post by Vaquero » Sat Nov 15, 2025 2:22 pm

Well I wasn't even planning on going this morning as it was 59° :o when I got up. Sitting in the mancave sippin coffee enjoying conversation with a text group. My Wisconsin buddy is up in Michigan for their opener, another friend in MO. was hunting their opener and a friend in SC was sitting in a blind.
So around 7:00 I said whet the heck, filled the ole Stanley, grabbed the rifle and out to the backyard.
Fifteen mins. later one of the women up in Michigan drops a nice 8. And while waiting on a pic. This little dude comes out and is limping slightly across the hog lot. I wasn't going to shoot it til I noticed the limp. He's strolling across and he catches me poking the rifle out the window. Watches a min. Then starts on across, he's in the 60-65 yd. distance from me. I square up on him and let the hammer drop. He takes off tail down so I know I hit home.
I walk back to the house and get the 4-wheeler.
Rode down to where he crossed the fence and sure enough blood. Not a lot but it was definitely hit. He didn't leave much but I did find enough and followed right to him. He ran just about 100 yards.

I'd never heard of this, but it's a sad condition -- for any wild animal. This one would easily have been eaten by a Coyote or two; glad it's yours instead. Congrats.

Yes, if you want? Not required. I have mine checked, it doesn't cost anything, so why not.
