Coffee grinding coffee drinkers?

Post by Tape » Fri Dec 09, 2016 6:01 am

I just saw the "Our mornin Coffee and Weather" thread and it made me wonder who grinds their coffee?

I do and at the moment I have Starbuck's french blend, I like a dark strong coffee taste, black with sugar. I can't believe I use to add creamer.

I do not grind my coffee but I only like my coffee black with no funny flavors added. I had some "John Conti" coffee a few years ago while vacationing at Kentucky Lake. I purchase it a couple times a year from their website. I get their decaf breakfast blend and I would consider it my favorite.

At home I use a K-cup but usually drive into town and get a latte. The neighbor just texted me wanting me to pick one up for her.

I've been grinding coffee for many year and I use the Melitta pour over system cost less that $5 for brewer and cup . I love the control on grind size of my beans and freshness , plus I can control brewing too .

We occasionally splurge on Jamaican Blue Mountain Arabica beans which we grind at home. It's an exceptional coffee, but very expensive, so we only buy it once or twice a year for something special. Otherwise, we have a drip maker and feed it ground Columbian.

We sometimes grind and sometimes just use the pre-ground stuff. I am a coffeeholic. I will not live in a world without coffee. Can, and do, drink coffee morning, noon and, yes, in the evening, too. It's a family tradition on my Norwegian side of the family to sit down to a cup of coffee at the end of the day. Not talking decaf, either. I drink mine black, no sugar or cream, just straight and the darker and richer the better. Now and then, I do like a latte, but no flavoring, please. As an addict, I see flavored coffee as a way for coffee producers to mask the taste of their bad lots of coffee. None of that silly gor-met sissy stuff in my house.

Just this morning I pulled my french press out of the cupboard. I haven't used it in years because we got a Keurig machine and it was just too simple to drop in a pod and hit the button. The coffee was excellent.
I started buying beans recently and using the reusable cups for the Keurig. And I am happier with the coffee as well as the price. Those K cups ain't cheap.
We recently got a Nespresso machine and I am impressed with it. But again the pods are expensive.
Load on Sunday and Shoot all Week.......okay it's a Mare's Leg I will reload on Wednesday. ;)

I'm addicted to drinking a hot liquid whether it be coffee or tea. I take more care in brewing tea than coffee and have a single cup tea brewer from China. I also use real leaves and not dust in a bag when I use the authentic brewer. But I can also just pour hot water over a tea bag.

But most days I will drive the two miles into town and stop at Mercury Coffee. Its a small seven store chain that is near me and the range. Right now I'm on a 24 ounce hot Chai Tea Latte kick and have been for a month. I like big hot drinks with milk as it is usually by second breakfast.

I used to grind the beans too, and tried several varieties, most of 'em with names I couldn't pronounce, but now I just stick to Nescafe Gold Blend instant. When I want a coffee, I want one NOW!! - not in 10 minutes after the grief of grinding and percolating it!

I put 16 ozs of water in the microwave for 4 1/2 mins [ just under 212 degrees ] . Then I ground my coffee beans and in put it in my Melitta coffee maker and pour the 200 degree water over grounds and it less then 6 mins start to finish I have 16 ozs of fresh coffee , brewed perfectly to my taste .

You're making me want to go get another cup. Sounds delicious.

I ground my own beans for years but a couple years ago we got a Keurig machine and now I can have my dark roast and my wife gets her light roast. Makes for a happy family.

Never ground my own coffee. We bought a Keurig when they first came out years ago and it is still working, even though it sounds like a plane taking off when it pumps. You can hear it all over the house, I don't know what keeps it running. I have only descaled it twice. I get the K-cups for $25.00 for a box of 80 cups at an outlet here called Ollie's Outlet. It may not be the most popular brands but I really like what they have to offer in dark and medium roast, tastes good. I guess they are factory overruns or something like that, but it is never out of date. At SAM's Club or BJ's it is usually $39.00 for a box of 80, but then you have a choice of the more popular brands.

grinding your own is just so much better, once I done it I was stuck and couldn't drink store bought ground coffee any longer, it's just so bland and weak.

Not only grind it, but we roast it as well. Coffee berries are cheaper, give better flavor and keep a long time. Use a hot air popcorn popper for roasting. Coffee is my main source of nutrition :)

I ground up some coffee last night, but only because I bought a bag of whole beans by mistake. One of these days I'm gonna splurge on another Keurig machine (wore one out a coupla years ago). Those K-cups may be a bit pricey, but they make excellent coffee.
