OK. I just found the answer. I recently started to watch this on-demand. I didn't watch it when it was on the air; it was either on too late or we didn't get that channel. It's a quick 20 minutes of western storytelling and I'm enjoying it.

That is correct. He had 45-70 on his belt but the firearm was in 44-40 although it was sometimes mentioned incorrectly that it was 30-30. They had 3 different Mare's Legs and included both a round and octagon barrel.

This is just a guess from poking around looking for an answer, but it might be the pistol/rifle .44-40 Win ( or otherwise known as .44 Winchester Center Fire).
