From the picture, I'm pretty sure the "stupid" neighbor can be 'tracked' down and maybe made to cover the repairs.
A little unplanned upgrade this morning. Site is working ok it seems.

Re: Where would you move to?
I live on East Coast Florida, which is ideal for many of people. Traffic is bad. I'd rather have 20+ acres of mostly wooded land near the western center of the state. My wife will never move there. As a compromise, we bought a small waterview vacation cabin 65 minutes away. The drive through wooded and farmland is enough to chill my attitude.

S/E Idaho. Pocatello, Rigby, that area. Heading there in three weeks to hang out with some friends. And look around.
Re: Where would you move to?
Around 2020 my son in law suggested we buy a track of land in middle Pennsylvania between 25-50 acres. The idea was to have 4-5 prefabricated houses spread out and we each have a nice homestead. Well if we followed that idea we wouldn't be in this state of disarray that is New Jersey.
Re: Where would you move to?
My sister is in the process of moving back to Spokane from Pennsylvania. She has really enjoyed her time there living close to kids/grandkids but now the whole group is moving here. She is looking forward to being back where she grew up and lived for most of her life.JVogler wrote: ↑Sun Aug 31, 2025 10:18 pmAround 2020 my son in law suggested we buy a track of land in middle Pennsylvania between 25-50 acres. Re: Where would you move to?
I'm probably never moving from NY State. I like most all of Upstate NY. We have four weather seasons, several different types of countryside and a lot of rural areas. I enjoy being able to go outside to shoot, hunt and grow things on my own land.
I don't like any of the cities, so I tend to stay away from them. The NY City and Albany crowds are driving people away in record numbers I hear.
We would move to the Adirondack region of the state if family wasn't close by where we are. I enjoy spending time in the Adirondack Park while at camp. Winter is rougher there, but manageable.

Similar here. Unfortunately the UGB (Urban Growth Boundary) has been moving closer. Once we get forced in, can't shoot, can burn winter downfall, can't use noisy and fuel powered tools, can use any type of blower tool. Adding UGB property taxes will be significant. We'll have to eventually move further out or even move out of state. If I thought we could handle the cold, in my mind Montana and Wyoming feel appealing. Up country AZ around Payson AZ feels attractive. Year round temps there are similar to here.daytime dave wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 10:49 am... Re: Where would you move to?
It gets REALLY hot here, but not that cold, for long. We get real cold days, but they don't last and real cold here is in the single digits and those are rare. The cold days normally are in the 20s. Not like up north where cold days start with a dash and can last for weeks. Like -10. NOT in my playbook.
Oh, and I forgot, snow up there is measured in FEET not inches.

Don’t forget about the wind and drifting snow. Last year the low was -30F but it only lasted a few days. It may sound bad but it’s not if you are prepared.BrokenolMarine wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 5:02 pmIt gets REALLY hot here, but not that cold, for long. We've not been getting much really cold weather like I remember getting here when I was younger, 20's or above seem to be the norm and Spring seems to be starting somewhat earlier. We can still get a fair amount snow some years but some years we can get very little. Our snowfall is usually wet so we don't get much drifting.BrokenolMarine wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 5:02 pmIt gets REALLY hot here, but not that cold, for long. Now that I don't have to be snow blowing, shoveling and spreading sand and de-icer at 5 in the morning I don't mind Winter nearly so much. Still too hot for too long in the Summer.
As far as moving (which is not going to happen for me) I would love some place with mild winters and mild summers.

It’s interesting Dave the differences in the weather in the short distance between you and me. I’m always looking at the Wenatchee forecast especially right now with the heat wave we’re having. Pretty soon it will be winter and I’ll be whining away for Arizona or Texas. I still think we should sell our home, buy a place in the south, develop the property up north and reverse snowbird. My wife is not onboard with this plan but I’m working on her.

Re: Where would you move to?
I also don't like Northern Virginia, but the further you get away from it, the better it is, except for politics as mentioned. The only part of politics is the state wide ones though (most of the time) as everything else around here is just fine. We have just about everything we need here in SW Virginia as far as most of the good things mentioned on these 4 pages, but I would say that the original poster would not want to move this far and there seems to be some good suggestions by some of the replies posted, closer to his area.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Wed Aug 27, 2025 9:04 pmToo late for me to move but I have been in Central Va. for 71 years. One thing I don't like is that Northern Va. is still part of Va. as far as politics go.
Yes we have lots of little taxes that all add up. Weather can be anything at anytime! Right now we have a great Fall type system moving thru finally to break the months long heat and humidity. If I were to move it would be East Tenn. if you like beautiful mountains and valleys. We have a Govenor Election coming up in November which will be VERY interesting how the vote goes....check it out!

NorVa isn't part of VA, it's a subdivision of DC.

Re: Where would you move to?
The current actual temps on NOAA's site are pretty close to what I get at my place but some other sites get their temps from downtown so can be a little hotter than I am being outside of town. There can be a big difference in the wind speed since I'm in a canyon off the river valley and NOAA's wind speed is measured at the airport. They can be having 20mph wind and depending on wind direction we can be having similar wind speed or just a slight breeze.Hatchdog wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 10:57 am

My wife is not onboard with this plan but I’m working on her.To develop the place up north we would have to drill a well. I’ve been looking at destination rv travel trailers. Buying one of these units would help us avoid getting any permits to make the place livable. There is a non-permitted septic system that could accommodate the rv holding tanks. Probably never get my wife to live in an RV 90 miles away from shopping.

I don't know what your gun inventory is but if you do snowbird you may have an issue bringing banned but grandfathered items such as over 10round mags and most semi-auto rifles back into the WA state.
I had a uncle that moved to Arizona when he retired. He had enough friends and relatives up here that they would just come up and stay with them for a while during the summer. He was a jack of all trades so he would help out with any needed repairs where he was staying. He would usually spend several weeks at my mom's place.

Hadn’t considered that, thanks for bring it up. I’ll do some research.
