Hurricane Erin is spinning by NC's Outer Banks
I have the son of a good friend from Virginia who works on the Ocracoke Ferry. He tells me everyone is evacuated from the Outer Banks and Ocracoke except emergency workers. They're worried about storm surge and high waves as well as wind.

Up very early today (4:00). We’re heading up to the property to take a look around and take the dogs for a ride on the timber company land that borders us. We’ll take the UTV with us and do some exploring. It’s going to be hot today so our plan is to get up there early and beat the heat. The high temp there will be about 10 degrees lower than here at home. Yipee!

58 now and 90+ expected later. Hotter tomorrow (sporting clays shoot) and even hotter Sunday (golf). I really need to have my head examined being out in all the heat three days in a row. (Okay, this in only one of several reasons my head needs examining)

Thunderstorms rolled through last night and some areas received 2-6 inches of rain. Traveling 70 miles to have lunch with a very good friend and his significant other. Everyone have a good day and weekend!

Hurricane Erin has exited our area stage right .... don't know of any unanticipated damage from Erin at NC's Outer Banks .... 72 with a RealFeel of 79 at 11AM under a mostly Carolina Blue Sky, next time rain is mentioned in the forecast is not until Aug 31st .... predicted high 81 with an overnight low of 64 .... our oldest son has been restoring a 1977 Jeep J10 pickup for the last couple of years .... earlier this morning he and his 8 year old son left home headed to the 2025 Jeep Invasion in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ulhsO8NxK4 .... he's worked hard on his truck and this is the first time he's driven it far from home .... his wife, two daughters, and their French Bulldog left a couple of hours later in her new Wagoneer .... they will be attending the Invasion with some family from that area and plan to drive back home Sunday ....

About the same here, one last August heat wave before we start getting some normal September temps. I do have the advantage of foothills close by to the East and West so don't get sun until later in the day and it goes down earlier. Kind of a bummer in the Winter though as we only get about 4 hours of sun but actually we get so many temperature inversions here in the Winter that we can go weeks with no sunshine at all.

It'll be interesting to see what Sept brings. All Summer we've had some cooler Sept weather swapping back and forth with hotter July/Aug usual temps.

My friend who works on the Ocracoke Ferry posted some pictures on Facebook and the damage is pretty significant. Roads washed out
and homes damaged, but no lives lost that he knows of.

62 this morning with hazy skies. We’ve been very fortunate this summer with very little wildfire smoke. High today in the mid 90’s and by Monday we’ll see the upper 90’s. No triple digits forecast like Mags and dave77 are expecting thankfully!!!

Today is the annual charity sporting clays shoot and our regular team (The Slayers) are participating. It’s always a great time both the shoot and the lunch and door prize drawings after lunch. The prizes are all donated and we buy tickets to enter. The monies raised from the drawings is 100% for the charity (Guide Dogs of America). Prizes always include a couple of firearms and lots of other great goodies.

Yesterday we went up to our neglected property. We took the dogs for a ride in the Ranger up on the timber company property. The roads are getting so overgrown due to lack of use that’s it’s getting impossible even in a utv to get thru. We’re thinking about selling the property as I’m not keeping up on it like I should and we’re not using it like we used to. Plus with the roads so overgrown grouse hunting is getting limited.

Here’s the dogs enjoying a lunch break.

66' and hazy/sunny this morning. A cloud here and there. Supposed to get to 101. I don't think where we are at it'll get that hot here. Yesterday, in town, parking lot air temp reached a 109. Street air temp 104'. In the forest here under the trees 95'.

It'll be interesting to see what Sept brings. All Summer we've had some cooler Sept weather swapping back and forth with hotter July/Aug usual temps.
FWIW, forecast for the first week of Sept is low 80's, hopefully low 80's to mid 70's which is average for the rest of the month.
