FWIW, I have 5XL mitts and have fired my son's S&W 500 magnum, one handed, semi-rapid fire without any difficulties. I don't think I'd have any problem with the 45-70. I'd probably use the "cowboy loads" though and stay away from Buffalo Bore's offerings.
