Bushnell rimfire scopes

Boy do I dislike Bushnell scopes but I am really attracted to the Bushnell Rimfire Optics 6-18x40 Riflescope for my 22 mag Henry or my Ruger 10-22. I am a Nikon fanboy and own only two of them but they have been excellent, I have the Nikon Monarch 5-20X44 and a 1.5-4.5X24. I use to only mount Leupold on my rifles until I tried a Nikon and I personally could not tell the difference, the brightness and clarity were just as well as the Leupold. Enough of that.

Now comes the Bushnell, This is about the cheapest scope I ever bought and it cringes me even thinking about buying it;

I have been told by numerous shooters not to buy a scope that cost more than your rifle, that a scope should only cost at the least 1/2 of the price of the rifle but I don't believe or think that way, I spend what I think it will take to get the best groups out of my rifle @ MOA.

The Bushnell looks so nice and has a nice feel to it, it really feels like a quality scope. Nice weight to it and it seems like some real technology went into it. I will give Bushnell one last try and if it fails my expectations that it for them and I will spend the 363$ on the Nikon that I think I should have done anyway. I am usually the "buy once cry once" guy, I hope I don't cry twice in this case, hate going through the return process.

I have a Bushnell Trophy Rifle Scope 4-12 x 40mm and I have put it the extreme on my Henry 44 Mag rifle and it just keeps giving what I want. For my more expensive scope, I buy the Vortex scopes cause of there VIP warranty. Leupold is just too expensive for my taste.

Shockproof: Yes but goto Bushnell's site and the answer is "NO" There are only 2 or 3 series of riflescopes that are Water,Fogproof & Shockproof and all the rest are not. I even emailed Bushnell twice and they will not answer emails, I wish I did all this research before buying.

guys I appreciate the suggestions but it is a little too late at the moment, the scope is on the way, I'll give a brief review of my thoughts on this, we are having some crappy weather all week and I'm going to leave the scope outside in the rain to see the effects.


I will gladly listen to other members and their thoughts on this and other scopes

I've never been a fan of Bushnell but must admit even the cheapest Bushnell is better than some of my vintage Weavers.

Bushnell used to make some superb scopes, and they still do, but the biggest problem is that there are so many fake Bushnell's around that it is hard to know whether you are buying a good one or a cheap copy. Buying from a trusted LGS usually solves that problem. Buying from online auction sites is when the problems usually start.

Even more so with Leupold. They receive hundreds of scopes each year for warranty repair and have to send them back broken because they don't fix knock offs. On their website they list authorized dealers and that is where you should buy them. You can find several listings on ebay from China but they are made in Oregon.

I cannot see why anyone including the Chinese would fake a Bushnell scope, why fake an already Chinese scope when China is one of the main leaders in producing counterfeit "everything" The only scope that I have "heard" of that is even good is the Elite series. When I think quality scopes Bushnell doesn't even enter my mind especially "superb"

I cannot believe https://www.bhphotovideo.com sent me a scratched up used scope, It had brass splashing's on the bottom of the scope and the zoom ring has scratches on it. I am so pissed. This is the second scope I returned in the last two week and definitely the last order I ever place with them. I am done with B&H photo & electronics. I'm sticking with Amazon and Walmart, I never had used items sent to me from them.

I have a Bushnell (not Bushnell Banner) from the 80's that is still going strong (6X40).

I recently put a Bushnell (not Bushnell Banner) on a WMR bolt job that I am very pleased with (3X9X40).

In June 2008, Bushnell acquired the assets of Simmons, so if you like Simmons, you like Bushnell.

In my life I only had one scope fail, and that was my first; a Kmart scope that fogged after about 10 years in the swamp.

I have not even been able to destroy the "free" scope that came on my springer. That's pretty bad after >2K shots.

Yet I read on all the reviews (various internet sites) where all these scopes ( you name it) are constantly failing.

I guess I just don't have what it takes

you're very fortunate H88 but I'm sticking with Nikon, none of my Nikon's have ever failed and the clarity is excellent.

I can't recall hearing anything negative about Nikon scopes, just comments about other scopes being "more positive", if that makes sense.

I am right now looking for a scope, but Nikon doesn't have anything with an adjustable objective that is even close to my price.

I have no brand loyalty, really. It's just what fits my needs and has 4/5 or more stars across multiple websites.

Good luck, but with a Nikon you probably won't need it
