Garage and road project
Re: Garage and road project
It is a variant of canasta that I grew up playing in South Dakota. All the kids knew how to play.

I’m back to playing on the tractor. Here is the first two loads of ten that I’ll be getting.

Re: Garage and road project
I spread yesterday‘s two loads and received another two loads early this morning.
I’ll get another two tomorrow and two more on Monday. Then I’ll switch to 3/4” crushed rock. It makes it so much better to walk on after a rain. Instead of tracking in mud I’m walking on clean gravel.

Re: Garage and road project
I’m back to working on my project. I’ve already spread out six of the ten loads.
I made the back and side area bigger.
This will be a fire pit and picnic table area.
I had some erosion over the winter.
These rocks are at a quarry about 20 miles away. I’m thinking of buying them.
The tire is about eight feet across for comparison.

The boulders are a good idea to keep the edge from sluffing off.

You certainly know what you're doing or you're learning well enough as you go to get the job done. Either way, that is turning into an amazing homestead. It's been a lot of fun to read about your plans and then follow your progress after that adventurous move from Washington. Further erosion of the fill is likely, though. I think those rocks will make a big difference.
Good luck.
Good luck.

The hard part will be putting them where I want them.
I have 265 hours on the tractor and have finally mastered scooping a bucket on the run and not slipping the tires.CT_Shooter wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 12:01 pmYou certainly know what you're doing or you're learning well enough as you go to get the job done. A loader that wore that tire once upon a time could put them where you want them

Re: Garage and road project
They have several huge loaders. What they say is the loaders are too big and are designed to load trucks from the side. If they drop the rocks into the bed from that high up it will damage the beds. They actually need a smaller loader that can load from the back with the tailgate removed.
My Branson can only lift 700 pounds and these rocks can weigh a ton each. I may have to borrow a neighbor’s tractor. His front tires are bigger than my rear.

I walked up the hill beside my house to take these pictures. I think I’m at 116 loads of road building gravel to level the space. I’m hoping to finish the hard scraping this summer.
Living on a hill gives spectacular views but makes building very expensive.
