I had a Browning safe for years, moved it from our first house to the next one, which was not easy. It was the size of a small refrigerator, and weighed over 500 pounds, had a beautiful root beer colored paint job, and was a really nice safe. My ex never knew the combination either. She had some stuff that she wanted me to keep in the safe, and I'd get those things out for her when she asked, but she never knew the combo. Mine was also an S&G combo lock, no key or keypad. It's bolted to the floor down in what was my reloading room.
That was left in the house when our divorce was made final, so it's hers now.
I should probably just give her the combo at this point, at least she could use it then.

We made the three hour drive to Catoosa, Oklahoma. The home of one of two locations of the owners of the only Authorized Fort Knox safe dealership in Oklahoma. We spent a couple weeks doing our research, and what all the sources say is look at this not as a purchase, but an investment. Start by deciding what the main purpose of the safe will be:

Keep kids and irresponsible adults away from the contents?
* Perhaps an import box store safe will do the job.

Fire and Theft protection of firearms and valuables, important documents, sentmental items that can't be replaced at any cost?
* Buy better quality, and a larger size than your immediate need if you can.

Fort Knox is top quality, American Made. (Graffunder's are really top grade but OMG the pricing... The door for the top of the line Graffunder weighs as much as most other safes.)

You can order your safe in the level, style, color, and interior you want. Add the options you want, and in six to eight weeks it's at your dealer. We found a safe on the floor that would work, their delivery and installation is very reasonable.

They scheduled the delivery and installation. The safe weighs 1500 pounds, I wasn't going to think about trying. In addition, for a very reasonable fee, they will move the twenty year old Treadlock 600 pound safe and install it beside the new one. We will have the area prepared. Can't wait.

A peek at the safe on the showroom floor... we had them swap out the lock for a mechanical dial lock... and it has the lights inside, they just aren't plugged in here... The Treadlock I bought 25 years ago is still going, I expect this safe to outlive us...

Of course when itstalled it will be bolted to a concrete slab with four hardened bolts and this model has hardened steel added as an extra liner in addition to the heavy steel body. 1500 pound weight, empty.
