Heading down to Lewiston Idaho (2 hours away) on Friday for golf. It’s usually around 10 degrees warmer there than here in the Spokane area.

Enjoy Hatch! when I had an office in southern California five of us were flown by a supplier up to Lewiston for a weekend of golf at the Lewiston Golf and Country Club. Had a great time. You live in a beautiful area.
The supplier was Potlatch corp.

Potlatch is a big name around here. Glad you enjoyed your trip to Lewiston. For others info, Lewiston which is in Idaho and Clarkston which is in Washington are separated by the Snake river which is the state line. Big Lewis and Clark country.

Back up north here in Deer Park it’s 33 with a thin layer of clouds suggesting some sunshine. Yesterday I got a few hours of tree limbing in before the skies let loose again. Even had a bit of thunder with the hard cold rain and hail. Pretty typical for this time of the year.

I’m going to walk up the hill to the shop and into my hillside of trees to view the ice storm damage. From what I can see from the house and lower road I have a few downed trees.

73 at 10AM on its way to 88 later this afternoon .... our local weather is calling for 90 which would break a record and be our first 90 degree day of this year ,,,, only thing on tap for today is griddling a bunch of sausage for the freezer

Heeeee’s back! Ole man winter popped in this morning with 28 and a hard frost out there. His last hurrah I hope as we’re looking at sunny and sixties this weekend. Our trip to warmer Lewiston Idaho today got postponed as one of the group couldn’t make it. So we’re playing golf here locally and there will most likely be a frost delay. Grrrrrr

We have two funerals to attend this week. Both female cousins and both
12 to 14 years younger than me. I have lost so many younger cousins that
sometimes I wonder if I'm living in some parallel universe where everyone dies
around me and I just have to watch. I lost my only younger brother 22 years ago
and his wife prior to that. This will be three female younger cousins in 6 months.
Anyway we leave for Cedar Rapids, Iowa tomorrow and come back Monday evening.

29 this morning with a light frost. Yesterday’s sunshine must have evaporated a bunch of moisture from the ground as the frost isn’t nearly as heavy as yesterday. 60’s for our high with sunshine on tap. Happy for that.

After taking the day off yesterday to chase a golf ball around today I’ll get back to my tree limbing project. I have everything cut so now it’s cut up the bigger limbs and haul them to my burning spot. I limbed up to about 15’ off the ground cutting mostly dead branches. I did this both for the aesthetics and for reduced wildfire risk. Those dead branches are like a wick if fire gets into them.

I tried to capture how steep the hillside is that I’m working on. Lots of other trees around the other sides of the house that thankfully are on level ground. Today I’ll throw the limbs to the road below and load up into my little 4x8’ farm trailer and pile them up for burning.

I'm with you Hatch. I have a mess in my ten acres of woods as well. I have a lot of dead Ash trees due to the Emerald Ash Borer and I had a guy come in claiming he only wanted to heat his house with wood so he could help his children through college. I told him to cut all he needed but to pile the branches so they could be either burned or just decay into the woods. He didn't. Then he called and asked how much it was worth to me for each tree he had cut down, and how may trees did I think I owed him for. I told him that he was done cutting on my property. I then found out he is a wood dealer and sells the firewood.
I am in the process of purchasing a newer tractor. l have two old Fordsons but they are clumsy and I can't take them into the soft ground in the woods. I am looking for a Kubota that is four wheel drive with a loader with forks that I can gather the branches into burn piles. I have the DW, (Dear Wife's), approval on this so I'm looking.
I agree, it is a fire hazard.

Traveling 120 miles to watch a granddaughter play in a volleyball tournament. She plays on a traveling team and is the 6th grade, 1st time we get to see here play. Everyone have a great day!
