Red Dot on a single shot
Anybody have a Red Dot (preferably the Vortex Crossfire) on a single shot? Considering putting one on my 243. Would like to see some pics of available.
Thanks in advance

Re: Red Dot on a single shot
Hope this gives you some idea. The reddot is on a .357 and is the Vortex Venom 3 moa. It's mounted on a Henry/EGW mount which I shortened. The 3 moa is good for out to 100 yards but I've never attempted to use one at the ranges a .243 is capable of. The Leupold is a 2.5X Ultralight and is mounted on a .44 Mag.

Aren't they good lookin' rifles!
Re: Red Dot on a single shot
I'm waiting for my rail and I'll be mounting a new Vortex Defender red dot only 45-70.
I like the looks of the venom. This should be good.

Re: Red Dot on a single shot
Been a while since the original post but a red dot for a single shot is a great choice for one in a pistol caliber. But Im not sure Id choose to put one on a SS in 243. JMHO

I put a dot on my 357 max handi. Fun to play with on the range. Not a good choice for woods hunting. Can't see the brush.
Re: Red Dot on a single shot
I just picked up a New Henry single shot in .357 magnum. Went to the range today for a short while, it’s 12 degrees F and windy here in Vermont. Two things became quite evident right from the start. Henry fixed the trigger issue, wonderful trigger pull on this rifle, right at about 3 1/4 lbs. and crisp.
And the bad, at 73 I cannot reliably shoot past 35 yards with open sights! I used to do alright, but not any more. I have a Burris Quickfire on one of my turkey gun barrels, and when my scope base comes in I will give it a try. Love this gun regardless. Very quality build. This will not be my last Henry!
If I can figure how to add a picture I will.

Congrats on your new Henry! Same here on the vision thing. My Henrys are also scoped.rusticbob wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 1:29 pmI just picked up a New Henry single shot in .357 magnum. Re: Red Dot on a single shot
What power scope would you recommend for a .357? Or do you prefer red dot sight?
Re: Red Dot on a single shot
I use a Green Dot on my 357.

Ive bought 3 of these and a close friend of mine bought one also. I like the green better than the red.

Re: Red Dot on a single shot
Why not put a red dot (or green) on a single shot. Anything that helps you get on target faster and more accurately is what I call; mo-betta.

Do you always shoot at the same distance? Variable power scopes are variable for a reason.

Re: Red Dot on a single shot
Just ordered a Red Dot, will try that once my scope base comes in. I like a scope most of the time, but with a short range rifle like the .357 a red dot sight should work fine. If I even think I will be hunting at long range I will take my .243 or 30-06
Re: Red Dot on a single shot
Effective range depends on the ammo. .357 ammo is available from Buffalo Bore, and a couple others that is effective at 200 yds. Or you can roll your own. Anyway, just a point of interest. I have dots on other pistol caliber rifles that I like, so I'm pretty sure one will work for you.

Re: Red Dot on a single shot
I have both Vortex Striker 1-6x24 and a Leupold 3.5-10x40mm.
With my eyes the Vortex 1-6x is good out to 75 yds or so. My only regret with this one is not getting the 1-8x so I could be decent at 100yds. THe Leupold is a good scope, but I have to back from 10x some. With my shakes the image is too jittery at 10x. I also have a Vortex red dot, which I'm not too happy with. I can only really use it out to about 35yds for any accuracy.
