People really go all out ice fishing with all the comforts of home. That is Spirit Lake.

I would imagine that with the temps you've had that the ice is pretty safe. Do you know how thick it is?

Mille Lacs Lake is a very large lake in central Minnesota. There are so many fish houses that they plow streets and put up street signs.

Winter continues with subzero temperatures at night for at least the next ten nights. Daytime temperatures will be in the single digit positives. Four inches of snow is expected tonight and seven on Saturday.

It’s so cold I don’t want to make a dump run and garbage is building up in the garage. This is my fourth winter in Wisconsin and the fourth winter I’ve done this. It works out fine if I get it cleaned out while it’s still freezing. I’m not sure where the mice go when it’s this cold but I never see them.

Those ice trailers and ice houses from Sir Henry and Coop are pretty amazing. I’ve done a bit of ice fishing when I was younger and I’m glad we never had ice thick enough for those set ups. Not that I wouldn’t want to fish from them, just don’t want the cold temps to support them.

19 this morning and another inch of overnight snow. Looking ahead at the seven day forecast we won’t see temps above freezing for that period and probably beyond. Thankfully we are on the very western edge of the arctic blast hitting the upper Midwest thusly much milder temps. High today may hit the mid 20’s.

Do you not have garbage pick-up service? When I was working I would throw my one bag a week in the work dumpster to save a little money. Waste Management now picks up my fairly large bin once a week for around $20 a month. Actually more expensive to haul it yourself as the transfer station charges a minimum fee of around $60 a load and I don't believe you can actually go to the dump itself anymore.

No pick-up service because it’s so rural. The transfer station is only five miles away and it’s only $3 for a 33 gallon can. It’s really not a problem in the summer. In the winter I have to trudge through the snow and cold. When it’s below zero it’s easy to just toss it in the garage.

I burn my cardboard in a barrel and even put that off till it’s warmer.

We've been putting our cardboard in the flower gardens buried under mulch. Smaller pieces get burned. WM Txfr station fee here in Metro UGB zone is $69 per load (pickup). The other WM TxFr stations, several further miles out, is about 1/2 that (outside metro ugb, so no metro addon fees).

Not much actual garbage dumped as if the sheriff deputies can find anything with an address on it they will contact them with the option of coming back out to pick up their garbage or receiving a ticket with a fairly large fine.

Montana has a big problem with people dumping garbage everywhere. Some communities fixed the problem with free trash transfer stations. Individuals can dump anything and everything including hazmat. No reason to push an old refrigerator and tires off a cliff when you can dump it for free. Here it’s a mixed problem. No they won’t dump it in the woods they just throw it in the yard. Some homes are surrounded with five acres of trash.

People here believe if it’s your land you can do as you please. The good side of that is I can have a shooting range and no one will say a word. In the Seattle area I would be taken to court.

Our County is pretty uppity about a burn barrel it seems so I have regular

Freezing rain turning to rain and clearing this afternoon. Not driving anywhere for a while today.
Went to the dump this summer and had to climb the hill to dump. That was the last time, it is a mine field. A friend dumped a week later and put a steel post through his gas tank of his pick up and did some other damage. Totaled his truck. I have weekly trash pick up and there are folk that will haul away water heaters etc for a reasonable fee. In the summer there is a transfer station 5 miles away, will have to see what the current pricing is.

27' and cloudy. Return of rain expected by 10pm. It's been a very dry January here.

Us too Mags. Woke up to snow falling with about an inch on the ground. Thankfully it has already turned to rain much earlier than originally forecast. The weather guy told us that the overnight temp didn’t drop as low as expected. Yea! It’s looking good that my goal of not mounting the blade on the snowplow this year will continue for now anyways…..hehehehehe

Don't get cocky! That snow blade might be coming out.
Similar happened here with overnight temps. Was supposed to get down to 31', but got no lower than 45' with some very light rain. Just enough to make it damp. By tomorrow night we are supposed to see low elevation snow, some rain snow mix and then snow at least through Thursday with night time temps in the 20's. Cascades are supposed to get several feet of new snow.

I should have listened Mags.

I put the blade on yesterday not to plow my place but a neighbors. They are wintering down in So Cal and there was enough snow that their place looked empty so I plowed to make it look like folks are home there. They have a huge 5 bay shop adjacent to the home and a very large asphalt driveway in between the buildings. Nice to plow asphalt as my place is gravel and it’s hard to plow the snow while leaving the gravel in place.

Well, last night we got another 3” of snow so my plowing yesterday will need to be repeated. I may even have to do my driveway but I haven’t been out to check. 23 now with a high in the upper 20’s expected. Next week is forecast to be colder than this week but no additional snow expected.

This has been an easy Winter so far. I think I've only had to plow once or twice, but they are forecasting 6 inches of snow this coming weekend. As usual, just when we want to leave for the south withs the RV.
I keep my plow mounted year round and in the pole barn. It's my old 1983 Bronco that I bought new. Still runs great but it's pretty rusted out. The radio and heater work just fine though.
Here it is along with our bridge plowing snow.
