Tired of suggestions falling on DEAF Ears

Post by Vaquero » Sat Feb 01, 2025 2:25 pm

I may be the only one here that has made this particular suggestion, ;) but to no avail. It's something I really have no need for, but as a lot of us say. What does need have to do with it. :? okay, okay.
Some may know that Rossi  introduced a new line of leverguns recently, the R95.
If you didn't know it's a clone of Marlins 336/1895 model and comes in a few calibers and 2 different barrel lengths.
A 20" and a trapper with a 16.25".
Well a couple days ago I came across a trapper in one of my favorite calibers.... drum roll please.
The mighty 444  :o
I have 2 Marlins in this particular cal., and as I stated above have no need for another, but wanted one.
So now I have 3 with 3 different barre lengths this 16, an 18.5 ported and a 22".
I suspect this one will be as load if not loader than the ported version.
We are in SC visiting the youngest daughter and family, and will be headed home tomorrow. I have no ammo here to try so a range report will have to wait for a couple days.
I will say though the action is as smooth as an Henry I own.
Trigger just a bit stiff, but crisp. Guessing I'd say around 4 lbs. The furniture looks pretty good to comparing to some of the older Rossis I've seen in the past.

Damn that's a nice-looking rifle. I like a pistol grip stock on a lever gun, beautiful wood furniture too. I've often wondered how Henry compared to competitors on the smoothness of their actions. On the longer cartridges, you really notice any glitches in the travel and appreciate when it feels right.

Is the barrel threaded for a suppressor? It sure looks like it is.

Nice looking rifle in a very potent chambering.
That thing looks like it means business.

And, thanks for the kind words guys.

A little update,
This morning I did put just a few through it to more or less check to see if it would actually work.
I first tried a couple of of some heavy cast I had loaded for the other t-4s, they were just a tick to long and I had to jiggle the rifle to get those to lift, but they chambered and fire flawlessly with no ejection issue. Then a couple of some 265 gr Hornady interlocks, no issue either.
Both of those are loaded over some heavy doses of H4198, felt recoil was minimal.
Then the wife drug me off to help with some errands and didn't get back til around 3.
I did get the last of those cast I had on hand loaded up to try later this week, working tomorrow :?
I did adjust the OAL and they cycle sweetly.
I put 5 in the magazine and ran through them as fast as possible.
Other than I wasn't shootin the rounds, I believe ole Lucas McCain would've been proud.

Looks like a casting session is upcoming soon.

Oh, I did notice that when squeezing the trigger slowly. there is a small notch, like a set. You can barely feel it, but it will stop right there. You can let off the trigger and it'll stay, the trigger can flop back and forth like usual, but it stays set.
Then you squeeze a bit and it falls. Kind of interesting.

A can will reduce recoil about 30%.

Is this your only firearm with a threaded barrel?

If so, a good 45 caliber do all will help. Since you cast, get one that is user-serviceable. IE, take it apart and clean the baffles.

When I started, there wasn't a 45-caliber can that was user-serviceable and could also handle rifle cartridges. Now, you have a couple of choices.

This one Forty has,
https://ruggedsuppressors.com/pistol-su ... bsidian45/

I have 3 of these, Two in .358 and one in .460
https://www.griffinarmament.com/bushwha ... uppressor/

I run mine with a mount, but you don't have to. If you have only one threaded rifle, by all means, use direct thread.

It will be the quietest with subsonic loads and significantly less loud with supersonic loads. Lever guns are, in my opinion, the single best way to shoot suppressed. They are quieter than a nail gun and hit the steel quite hard. 650 to 700FPE for 45 colt loads at 1050 fps.

As I mentioned, felt recoil will be reduced by 30-ish percent.

There are other 46 caliber cans out there, but most of them are sealed now, meaning you have to dip them in a cleaner for extended periods of time to be rid of the carbon build up. I prefer one I can take apart, clean, and reassemble.

Sealed cans

https://www.silencershop.com/ramblin-ma ... dular.html

Finally, the last type of can, a hybrid where you screw on each baffle.

Late to the Rossi party here but you made a great choice Randy! I bought same rifle in 45-70 year ago for my Mules Leg build and love it! The cycles slick as you could want right out the box and no issues so far. With threaded barrel it is a nice handy shooter for a great price.
