Local School District

Post by Sir Henry » Wed Jan 15, 2025 8:39 pm

The local school district is one campus with grades K-12 in the main building. The school has about 320 students. Today the senior class provided a breakfast for seniors. It was really a good opportunity to see what kind of kids the school is producing as the first graders read us poems they had written about snowman melting and the 12th graders just sat and talked to us about whatever we wanted to talk about.

It was refreshing to see young kids with natural colored hair and no tattoos or facial piercings. Their clothes said North Face and Nike and nothing to indicate their politics or how they identify other than boy/girl. Many of these same kids I see in Church on Sunday.

I’m so glad I moved from the Seattle area.

That’s great. Seems like every time I see a group of Spokane school kids on TV it’s a rainbow of hair colors. I’d make a comment but then I would sound like my dad hassling me about my long hair when I was in school.

Gene, I'm glad to hear that they do something like that where you live. I think that does a lot to bring the community together. It should be a model for more places to do this.
I'm also glad that the kids seem normal there.

I couldn't have my hair too long in High School as I was working as a drive in cook. My hair was just over my collar and maybe half way over my ears and when I showed up for Sophomore PE (1968) the teacher told me to get my hair cut or he would flunk me, I said "OK, I'm not getting it cut so there's no point in me coming back to class". It was a required class so I took it the next year with a different teacher and got a B.

BTW, have you heard the music the kids are listening to now. (I can still remember watching Ed Sullivan with my Dad when the Beatles came on, he had nothing good to say about them)

I lo e small rural areas
Went to one of my sons youngest boys Basketball games a couple weeks ago. Before the game started, they had the national athem sung, and EVERYONE stood, faced the flag, removed their hat, and put their hand on their heart. No interest in taking a knee in rural america. Still proud of our nation.

I was talking to a first grader and she said her name was Alice except she spelled it Allis just like the tractor. Only in Wisconsin do kids get named after tractors.
