Crime in my immediate area is low but there are pockets in the towns that have crime. Domestic violence and bar fights are the biggest crimes. I figure if I stay single and don’t go out drinking I’ll be safe.

That's one tough looking cat! I wouldn't want to mess with it.

About twelve years ago my Wife adopted what had been a feral cat. Boy did she live up to that.
After all this time she will finally allow us to pet her and only us. Anyone else she hisses and spits and
tries to claw and bite. However she is quite entertaining as she loves to race between our chairs and see
if we can tag her. She nonchalance's her way in front of me and then with a burst of speed and and MMMfff
she'll dash through. She does that several times an evening while we watch TV.
This is her lounging on her pillow which is just behind me when I'm at the computer.

The Fire Dept just up the road near small shopping center got hit over the weekend. While the men were out on call some of their cars/trucks got broken into! Crazy stuff here lately!! I carry my Springfield XDE 45 ACP now instead of my 44 Special 5 shot revolver.

It's a sad state of affairs that we are even having this conversation. All of us forum family members are spread across this vast country of ours. Let's hope cooler heads prevail in the near future. We have to prepare for our own defense, sadly all of us have similar stories

That's a pretty neat revolver. I almost bought the same gun and it's .38 special counterpart this summer. If they are at the shop in the spring.......................

After more than two and a half DECADES in various forms of LE, I know what's actually out there and it's only getting worse. The liberal courts and prosecutors, and the restrictions put on the prison system making it less punitive have greatly contributed to the rise in serious crime. The liberal laws making petty crimes no longer crimes aren't helping.
We moved to an area where the homeowners and citizens have more rights than the criminals.

That last few years in VA I saw a number of GREAT officers retire or leave Law Enforcement entirely due to the revolving doors on the Justice System. A really good Trooper we had working our county left and took a job flying for the DEA in South Florida. He said if he was going to risk his life, it wasn't going to be for a system where he busts a guy for six felonies and he's back out in two months because everything was reduced to minor offenses in a plea deal. IT happened too many times and he sold his house and property and left.

And not that long ago, Virginia had a higher rate of Capital Punishment than any other state, for an example of strictness. What happened in general?

But it still burns my butt why. Not being stricter with crime that is.

I can remember shortly after my first years in LE in VA, Richmond had one of the highest homicide rates in the country. A young male committed a murder a few minutes after midnight on New Year's Eve and the Richmond PD found him a couple blocks from the bus stop where he had shot the man waiting for a bus. They asked him what that man had done. "Nothing, he was the first person I saw after midnight, and I wanted to be sure I was the first killer in the state this year."



The Governor, Richmond's Chief of Police, Head of the State Police, all the other local Agency heads, Cities and Counties, and several Federal Agencies formed a task force. They used existing laws, and created mandatory sentencing for a laundry list of violent crimes. No longer could judges and prosecutors turn them around and run them back on the street. Felon with a gun got ten years up front, walking in the coutroom, guaranteed. Plus whatever sentence the court added. Sentence to be served consecutively, not concurrently. Funny thing, once those sentences started, crime dropped. Richmond dropped out of the top ten for homicides pretty quickly. Slowly the leadership changed, and the program faultered, then disappeared.
