Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
Overcast, 21°F, Humidity 86%
Wind Speed SE 7 mph
Barometer 30.12 in
Dewpoint 18°F
Visibility 10.00 mi
Partly sunny, with a high near 31.
South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.
I got the yard and drive all cleaned up yesterday afternoon.
Now with the warm up that's coming it should expose the gravel again.
Christmas shopping is all done and now we're just waiting for the fun
to begin.
I received a calendar yesterday afternoon that has my Grand Daughter and her
family on every page. Those Great Grand Children are cute little buggers.
They live in Talkeetna Alaska.

dave77 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 11:54 pmI've always thought it strange that winter solstice was called the the first day of winter as it's the longest night of the year and since the days will start getting longer it would be more near the middle of winter. Had never heard of the meteorological first day of winter.
I see there are also solar seasons where the season's midpoint is the solstice and equinox dates.
What is solar winter?
A different way to look at winter is to focus on the incoming sunlight rather than an astronomical happening. This is known as solar winter.
Solar winter refers to when the least amount of sunlight is reaching the Earth.
In this definition of winter, the December solstice marks the midway point of the season, rather than the beginning. Solar winter starts around 45 days before the solstice and lasts for another 45 days afterward. This is roughly Nov. 6 through Feb. 4
https://www.accuweather.com/en/space-ne ... ine/863252
The meteorological winter is the coldest three months and can vary in different regions. The average coldest months are December, January and February. Some areas also use the three months with the most snow. I like the idea of either the solar or meteorological winters although winter starting in early November seems early. Maybe the meteorological is the very best at determining out perception of winter.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
Dave77 and Sir Henry, I shared your information with my wife as your facts support her ideas. She got a real kick out of that.
Good stuff that makes sense.
36 this morning with rain expected late afternoon. We had a pretty good downpour yesterday as forecast. Then rainy on and off all week with valley temps up to the low 40’s. Regardless it will be cold enough for snow in the mountains and that’s a good thing. Happy snow skiers now and happy water skiers this summer. Winner winner.
Not much on tap today other than running into north Spokane to a feed store to get the neighbor’s cat a Christmas gift. Yeah, their cat and our dogs exchange gifts every year,
While there I’ll pick up a CCI 300 pack of mini mags for him as my wife already ordered some Hummingbird houses for her.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
today's weather word is "COLD" .... 39 degrees at 2:30PM and today's forecast says that will be our high ..... don't know the temp at 10:30 this morning when we hooked up our camper, towed it 3 miles and set it up at one of our son's home where we will stay in it over Christmas .... just before leaving it there we set the furnace at 40 which its lowest possible setting .... it came on immediately .... according to local weather reports our temp should drop below freezing around 6PM and remain below for the next 16 hours .... yep, for our part of the country, that's COLD ....

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
^^^^^^ that’s crazy Jim, you have 22 and here in the north I am currently sitting at 38 and it’s 7:00am.
Yep, 38 out there and it’s expected to be in the 40’s all week for our highs and above freezing for the lows.
No snow for Christmas around here.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
Overcast temp 29 Humidity 86%
Visibility 13
Barometer, 30.12
Wind speed calm
Mostly cloudy, with a high near 32.
North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly before 11am.
The deep freeze is over and they're forecasting rain by the weekend.
The dad blasted ice maker is driving me nuts. I've replaced it, updated the
R/O system, replaced the water valve, replaced the filter and it still doesn't work.
Today I will disconnect the R/O and put it on softened water to see if water pressure
is the problem.

Summer in Australia, had days well over 100 last week, barely made it to the mid 60's yesterday and light snow falls in the high country.
Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
We got 10” of snow overnight on Tuesday. I traveled to the coast on Wednesday morning for work and I’m not going home until it’s all gone!!

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
Holy cow, saw snow north of us but didn’t expect that kind of volume. Don’t blame you for staying away. I was bitching to my neighbor yesterday about the gloomy weather and he correctly reminded me that we haven’t had to plow yet.
Another 38 degree morning and we had a hard rain overnight. Had it been colder we too would probably be plowing 10” of snow. Rain on and off today but ending late afternoon. Son and DIL are coming over for dinner and the dogs are getting anxious to open their gifts.
