Warm front here. Blustery wind and rain overnight. Quite a few tree parts fell. At the moment, calm, mid 50's and sunshine.

64 at noon, its supposed to reach 69 later this afternoon before dropping back 50 overnight .... my morning was spent renewing my driver's license .... learned something, my notarized hospital issued birth certificate doesn't qualify for upgrading my regular driver's license to being a government certified ID .... to get that I have to get a certified from the county where I was born .... I've found out I can get one on line

10:30AM 52 degrees which is the highest its supposed to get all day under a wonderfully clear Carolina Blue sky .... we were up early to drive to a doctor's office in North Raleigh to pick up a child and take her to school .... after doing so we drove on to Walmart for meds and groceries .... our predicted low for tonight is 40, subfreezing temps due to return in a couple of days ....

29 and overcast today with a warming to the mid 30’s on tap. Maybe a shower overnight with a dry day tomorrow. Rain/snow coming in over the weekend.

Saw Minneapolis on the news this morning getting a snow dump. Minnasnowda for sure.

I was planning on starting my outdoor burning today but yesterday’s big winds dried everything out so I’ll wait for more snow/rain. Probably smooth out the gravel driveway today, I sure hate shoveling gravel. The first part of my driveway is a sharp nearly 180 degree turn and goes up a short but slightly steep hill. When the delivery trucks come they make that sharp turn and nail the gas and spin tires all the way up the hill. So it’s a constant chore for me to smooth the driveway as it gets very bumpy.

43 at 8AM on its way to 54 later this afternoon before dropping back to 36 overnight ..... 80% chance of rain but the weather radar doesn't show any indication that there is any rain within more than a hundred miles .... Maureen is on her way to the local DMV office to renew the tags on our Silverado and one of our utility trailers .... Amazon shows our last ordered Christmas gifts are "Out For Delivery" ..... my only task on tap for today is to ready our camper for hauling to one of our son's home where we will spend Christmas .... doing so involves packing up our drinking water hoses and the propane hose from our 500 gal bulk tank .... both were in use a few days ago while our home hot water system was down

I plowed snow most of yesterday afternoon. The voltage regulator went
out on the plow but I got it up to the shop and Chris had a used one he
put right in. Then I had to rescue the neighbors and get them plowed out.
Today it's just cold.

30 this morning and dark. Forecast is for a warm day with highs in the 40’s. Then all next week more 40’s which pretty much eliminates a white Christmas. Our average high is 33 for this time of the year so 40’s is a treat. Just read that our snowpack is at 108% so happy about that. Hope these warmer temps don’t melt some of it.

Our wind storm the other day dumped a bunch of pine needles on the lawn and with these temps I just might get out and rake them up. Crazy for December 20th, they should be buried under a foot of snow.

Sorry Al, I'm doomed to plow snow and shiver until mid Feb when the last Grandchild birthday is done. They it's off to sunny Florida with the heavy traffic and crowded restaurants to see Carol's family. I would love to see them and then head west on I10 to the Southwest, but I don't think that's in the cards this year.

I'm 84 now and still doing OK, but I do wonder how many years before she takes my car keys away. I have friends who are younger than I who have their sons or sons in law drive their RV south to a campground and then they fly down for the Winter. I don't any sons who could do that so I doubt that will happen.

Ive been here since Dec 1st. Will be here until April 1 then Ill return to Blanco. Im not sure right now how long I will stay there might drag my feet a while going home. Im 6 miles wests of Port Aransas in an RV park. Its on Hwy 361.

Nice to take the dogs on their hike this morning without foggy low clouds. Happy the days will start to get longer as I’m waiting until 7:30 for it to get light enough to take our hike. According to my wife spring comes right after Christmas. Huh

I've always thought it strange that winter solstice was called the the first day of winter as it's the longest night of the year and since the days will start getting longer it would be more near the middle of winter. Had never heard of the meteorological first day of winter.

I see there are also solar seasons where the season's midpoint is the solstice and equinox dates.

What is solar winter?

A different way to look at winter is to focus on the incoming sunlight rather than an astronomical happening. This is known as solar winter.

Solar winter refers to when the least amount of sunlight is reaching the Earth.

In this definition of winter, the December solstice marks the midway point of the season, rather than the beginning. Solar winter starts around 45 days before the solstice and lasts for another 45 days afterward. This is roughly Nov. 6 through Feb. 4
