Range Report: in the backyard

I wanted to go to the range today but didn't have the time to do the whole trip to the range bit. So instead I plinked at metal trays hooked to trees and a fence. Not exactly a precision shoot but I was able to make 63 plinks in a row before missing. I think 70-something is my record. The targets are all 10 to 14 meters from the firing line which is covered. Some targets are large and almost a guarantied hit every time. But some are also small and takes a lot of concentration.

Looks like kind of BB gun version of Hicokok45, there,Gene, meaning lots of fun. Our outdoor air gun range has been wet and swampy all summer, so spent most of the time shooting metal spinner and reactive targets instead of paper. Loads of fun, but not much for show and tell. Anyway, glad you squeezed in some shooting when you could. That's the beauty of shooting BB and air guns at home.

A hickok45 in the making?

I love plinking in the back yard with the airguns, Daisy included.

Some of those replica air pistols (P-38/P-08) can really be a lot of fun also, at basically no cost.

In the summer and early fall I was out here plinking daily. Next spring I'm setting up a bullet trap for target shooting. I already have the trap and I have posted using it before. It will be in another direction and will be at 25 yards. If I want to shoot closer I move and the target remains in the same place.

Good for you. 25 to 35 yards is really prime airgun shooting distance. That extra jump from 35 to 50 is really a killer for those light pellets. Even the slightest breeze at 50 will ruin groups. Really takes ideal conditions for an AG to do its best at 50 or beyond. Out to 35 yards, though, you can shoot very consistent groups, day in and day out, with an AG.

We can get high winds but on the daily basis we are calm year round. I didn't have a back catch up last summer but I did try the distances for a few shots.

Most of the stuff I bought at yard sales or the Goodwill. Each piece has a distinct sound.

I'm making a course where I have three separate shooting areas and go from post to post while shooting targets. I plan on shooting for time when it is complete.

RR, i know my neighbors are a lot closer than yours. While I would never shoot a centerfire out here, I shoot .22s all the time, including about 50 shots today. 90% of it are CCI quiet/standard, though I do shoot a little HV and even an occasional WMR/WRF.

Get yourself at least a classic, I promise you will not be disappointed.
