Our Morning Coffee and Weather

30 and still overcast with freezing fog. Probably only gain a degree or two for the high. These are awful days that we endure every year. Maybe we’ll see Mr. Sunshine by Sunday.

On my trip to Idaho yesterday there were several places that the road was icy. Passed one rollover accident and encountered several law enforcement cars running with lights and siren. Most likely responding to other accidents. I had no issues but was careful.

Other than a trip to Deer Park with my wife today I may get started on loading some 357. Shot up the last of my reloads last week.

as usual, we've had an active day that also as usual hasn't resulted in any major results .... hauling a pickup load (yep, full load) to the dump was my only time away from home .... test firing our Sportchassis in preparation for this weekend's camping trip went well .... 46 at 3:40PM and that's the highest temp I've seen today .... no rain on the horizon .... all Christmas presents that have come have been wrapped but that is an ongoing process

It’s snowing heavy with high winds. I’m in the motor home looking at the shop which is 115 yards away and I can’t see it because of the white out. Low tonight will be 5F.

The snow all went east of us but we have had high winds all afternoon. It's 12 right now and heading down.
Gonna be a cold night. Bring all pets and spouses in for the night.

Good morning. It's 39° at the moment, but that's the high for the day. Will be getting cooler as the day goes on, 29 by 5 pm.
Suppose to be 17° by this time tomorrow morning.

Coffee is especially good this morning. High winds and lake effect snow last night. Power went out about 8pm so I called it in and got out the lanterns and an extra blanket. Was checking things out around 1;00 am, 18 degrees and very blustery but not much snow. 50 degrees in the house so I went back to bed. Power came on just before 3:00am, it was getting a bit uncomfortable so the timing was great. Looked at the outage map this morning and counted 15 in the local area. Power company did a fine job. Heavy snow looks to be starting 5 miles north so that works out as well but subject to change as it is supposed to have lake band snow all day. Snowblower on the lawn tractor with chains and weights. Have a fine day today.

well, anything left outside that can be damaged or killed by frost is pretty well history .... late yesterday afternoon frost formed before dark .... that's fairly rare around here .... it formed before dark, must have warmed up overnight and was gone before daylight this morning .... 49 at 9:25AM with a forecasted high of 56 .... the possibility of rain is back in our long range forecast with a 60% chance Tuesday and Wednesday of next week .... first up this morning, our Silverado back the the shop for an NC State Safety Inspection .... second, our Blazer to the shop for service .... third, a run over to a fresh market for a bulk purchase of hot sausage

Well, at least the wind finally went down.
I have my old snow plow in the shop up the road for repairs. So far a new fuel pump,
a drive shaft universal, oil change, and now we're waiting on parts to fix the windshield wipers,
( a branch fell on them and broke the arm).
My snow plow is a 1983 Ford Bronco that I purchased new and put the plow on thirty years ago.
As my friend Chris the mechanic says, "It doesn't owe me anything". It's rusted out and no longer road
worthy, but it plows snow with ease.

Lots of cold and snow reported above, my sympathies to all.

Here it’s 28 and dark. Today is expected to be like the last several with little increase in temperature and freezing fog making the roads slick. Again tomorrow and then on Saturday we have a warm front coming in with rain and or wet snow. Then next week back to cold temps but no more fog and maybe some sun breaks.

I turn my heat up from 68 to 72 during storms. If I loose power the radiant heat would keep the house above 50 for several days.

This is how much snow I have on the level yet my driveway has two feet of drifting snow.

With the high winds yesterday I was concerned that we would lose power, but then we have our Generac so no worries I guess.
We just had the dealer come out and do the service check on it.
If we lost power overnight the only way we'll know is our computers are rebooted in the morning and I will get an email from the
unit saying what time and for how long.
It will even power my shop.

I have drooled over the Generacs for decades. Maybe when (if) I grow up I will get one.

We're traveling to the big city today to purchase some Salmon which
I'll brine and smoke over the weekend. Then Carol will vacuum pack
smaller portions to put in our Christmas baskets we give to neighbors.
She also make candy, spiced nuts, cookies, ect to fill them out.
It's a tradition in our small community that has been going on for decades
and all the neighbors do similar things. I do love eating all the candies that
we get in return.

29 and another overcast foggy day expected keeping the high only a few degrees higher. Tomorrow brings a warm front with rain that should get rid of these dreary days we’ve had all week. But it looks like we will be returning to the gloom next week.

A neighbor is hosting a cookie exchange in our community and my wife plans to attend. She’s decided on chocolate chip mint and is planning on baking a test batch today. Of course I volunteered to be the guinea pig.

our club is once again camped at Four Oaks for our last outing for 2024 .... its 39 degrees and they say it will get up to 40 but that doesn't seem likely .... low tonight is supposed to be 20 which requires some precautions to prevent our water line freezing .... yep it cold but we are really happy to be here

We’re under a Winter Storm Advisory today for snow/rain/sleet/freezing rain and freezing fog. So far nothing happening out there other than a cool 28 with frost. If this happens I will feel bad for the working folks that need Saturday for shopping and other running around. Nice to be retired and to be able to stay home when the roads are slick.

Speaking of staying home our schedule is wide open, go figure. Might continue my 357 reloading project.

I am so tired of the gloomy weather this week i started my annual “let’s move to Arizona” searching yesterday. At least a month ahead of schedule.
