Stage 2 Kidney Cancer and Cataracts

Cataracts are a painless fix and will give great results. Have had 2 detached retinas (not so painless if you decline general anesthesia), cataracts, laser correction, and now have dry macular which is not really curable. Eye injections appear to be over hyped and real short term fix. Left eye really going south and may have to get used to the passenger seat. My wife's driving makes me crazy and will put a strain on our 56 years together. The good thing is If I can't see the speedometer or the cars piled up behind us will be good to go. Hearing is going too, so I wont hear the horns blowing behind us. Old age sure does create new adventures.

Add a pinch of forgetfulness and you have a recipe for disaster when you also add to much stupidity. On Sunday a person was taking an exit on the freeway and at the last second decided not to take it. It could not merge back because of heavy traffic and while people slowed down no one slammed on their brakes. A second later the on-ramp was there with multiple cars. That meant they had to merge with the car now entering the on-ramp. Luckily no one crashed but it was close because one person made a stupid decision.

Drive smart and you should be okay.

I may need cataract surgery sometime, have cataracts but so far they aren't quite bad enough for surgery. Kind of look forward to not having to wear glasses for distance vision but then I'll probably need them for close up which means I'll always have to have reading glasses handy which will probably be more of a hassle than just always having my bi-focals on.

Did you get multi-focus lenses?

Not in my eye. My doc told me it sounds like a good idea but in reality they haven’t perfected the making of them. My eye glasses are no-line bifocals and they work great.

Thought about the multi-focal lenses but the doc couldn't (wouldn't) guarantee good vision so I just did the standard. Very pleased with the improvement but it is not perfect so I am wearing bifocals mostly for reading. I did get the restriction removed from my drivers license mainly on principal since I am wearing glassed most of the time anyway. Got it removed because I could. Kind of a mini age rebellion.

I had cataract surgery going the first eye in September and the other 3 weeks later. Both healed as expected and now my distance vision is better than I ever had. Based on advice from my surgeon I went with the single prescription implant. Most of the tine I do not need reading glasses. Only on occasion when the lighting is very dim or the print is extremely small do I need reading glasses.

Go with the proven single vision corrective implant. They have been time tested and work.
