Hardly get a call or casual visit from our son and they just live7 miles away. They of course know about my wife's Alzheimers and that isn't going to get any better. 3 days from Thanksgiving and no call about anything going on. Did NOT raise him that way when our folks were around.

Sadly everyone has a family story that is just like a soap opera, just which chapter are you living. For about 10 years we were on the "Terminally ill parent, oh God she's still alive" chapter. 5 assorted siblings helping to take care of mom in 1 way or another. Sibling #6 told my 2 sisters " if you keep babying mom like that she could live till she's 90. "

I can understand. My wife and I see family different. She thinks they should be apart of our daily lives. I think that they have their own life. Yes, it is nice to get together. Yet, people do drift apart over the years. So, I try to go where I fit in. And, I don't mind peacefulness. If I don't fit in somewhere, I have a peaceful time, where I am at. So far, I have not started a fight with myself.
Actions speak louder than words (Matthew 7:16-20).

Nothing at all Al.

My step son lives two doors away. It's great for helping with the grand daughter and sharing equipment (I share mine with him :D ). We can't see each other's homes and that adds to the sense of privacy.

I can’t see another lived in house from my home and I like it that way. There are two houses in the distance that are seasonal cabins but one I can barely see and the other only has someone there a dozen times a year.

I don’t have my birth family anywhere near me and I’m no longer in contact with them. I have been adopted by the community and am currently at a neighbors daughter’s home for the holidays. A lot of people here call me brother or cousin because I am the main transportation driver for a 99 year old neighbor and I call her mom. We go somewhere almost everyday. Hence her real children call me brother.

There are other shut-ins as well and I take them shopping and to doctor appointments. This is a small close knit neighborhood and it’s common for me to have several visitors everyday. My place got to be the center of activities and outings. My van is a seven passenger that is often full going out to dinner or shopping.

I really found a good place to grow old.

Don't worry about it as it is way overrated ! Wife and I would never be found if we happened to die together at home.
I can relate Forty. Probably the same here if not for good FRIENDS.

If we died at the same time I'm quite sure either UPS or FEDEX would check on us for lack of activity.
Maybe even Amazon.
