29 now with mid 40’s and sunshine on tap for today. Same tomorrow then rain arrives Sunday and expected to stay around for most of next week. Glad I’m getting my outdoor projects finished up this week. I still have several oil changes to do but that can be done under cover. Today is more pine needle raking and a final pass with the mower just to vacuum up leaves and needles.

One of the nearby ski resorts is opening up today. It’s called Lookout Pass and is on the border of Idaho and Montana in the Rocky Mountains. This resort is always the first to open and with an annual snowfall of 400 inches that’s not surprising. Happy skiing snow bunnies.

Coffee this morning with plain Jane.

The heating repairman is coming today to put some finishing touches on the boiler he repaired last night. It's getting colder and the motor went recently.
Yesterday I did other winter prep. I changed the summer tires and rims to the studded snow tires and rims. I also took the mower deck off the JD garden tractor and put the snow blower on and put the cab on. All set for snow now, which is not in the next 10 day forecast. It was decent yesterday, so it got done.

30 with an upper fog hiding the sun. High today in the 40’s with rain coming in this evening. Then rain on and off for the next several days. Temps will moderate with overnights above freezing most nights.

Yesterday I finished up the outdoor stuff like raking and blowing pine needles. Today I’ll start the snow equipment service by changing the oil and lubing the tractor. Just the loader has 16 zerks. Still have to do the Ranger which is my primary snow plow, the snow blower and two generators. Other than taking items that don’t like to freeze from the shop and garage to the basement I’m pretty much done. Hooray!

Glad you’re finally getting some rain Coop.

Our rain came in overnight on a warm front and it’s a balmy 37 out there. Not sure on the predicted high but in the 40’s somewhere most likely. Rain on and off all week with mild temps.

More chores this morning then I’m hitting the recliner to watch the Gonzaga Bulldogs take on Arizona State in basketball at 2:00. Nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon as the Seattle Seahawks have a bye this week.

its a beautiful but cool 51 degree morning where we are camped near Four Oaks, NC .... we had a really good weekend camping with our club .... the others pulled out earlier, we are staying another day .... this is the first time we've used our camper since returning from South Dakota in late August .... we are happy to be able to say that she's performing well .... actually, Friday night I had the best night's sleep since having knee replacement surgery a little over 7 weeks ago .... to day's projected high is 67 with a chance of showers moving through around dark .... if the forecast holds true, we should have a couple of pauses in the rain that will give us time to pack up and head home

41 and drizzly. We may see a couple of degrees rise in the temperature but that’s about it. There is a suggestion of a sun break or two this afternoon. Rainy all week with clearing and a big cool down this coming weekend. There is even a suggestion of the “S” word on Saturday. It’s time for our local news folks to start predictioning the snow Armageddons that will bring the area to a stand still but in reality deliver 3-4” of snow.

It was an interesting morning to say the least. Once a month a group of old retired Air Traffic Control Supervisors meet at the
local Cracker Barrel for breakfast. The group used to be more than twenty but now only five or six are still alive, including me.
There were five of us this morning and the waitress. who knows all of us from years of serving us, announced that for the vets
among us there was a free breakfast. I said that was fine but I would pay for mine as usual. She replied OK but when I got my
bill there was no charge. OK, that was nice. She won, but I left her usual tip anyway.

Then we went to a very nice Supper Club which also serves lunch. As we came in the owner asked if I was a vet and I said yes
I had been in Viet Nam. He thanked me for my service and then when the bill came I got a free lunch.

Understand I appreciate all the honors that they are handing out but I don't need them. Carol and I are not rich, but we are well
off and can easily afford what we want. (Our needs are not expensive). I see people standing in line on Veteran's Day just for the
free meal and I will never do that. I stood in enough lines in the Army.

But, thanks anyway. It's much nicer when you don't expect it.

Coop its nice to see some veterans get some respect they deserve. Its to bad that more of it doesn’t come from the government side instead of the private sector. Last Saturday I worked with an Air Force Vet from Vietnam who was fighting with the VA about inhalers he needed. As far as Im concerned they should give him what he needs. I see these donation organizations advertising on TV for vets who have been disabled from their service. Those donation organizations shouldn’t exist. We should take care of our veterans. Just my .02 worth.

Good for you to accept the generosity offered. Even tho you don’t need it I’m sure it makes the folks offering the food/drink feel great to be able to provide it to you.

39 here this morning and still drizzly. But we are supposed to see the sun this afternoon. Still a bit of snow talk for Sunday. Got the snow blower all ready yesterday so I say….whatever . These early predictions usually never come to fruition.

Dogs are going to doggie daycare today and Mrs hatchdog and I are planning a run around day.

home for a few minutes in what has been a busy morning .... first up, 50 mile round trip to Cary, NC for a presurgery appointment for Maureen .... she's now on track to have knee replacement surgery in January .... next up, less than an hour away from taking her for a shot in her eye .... she says that isn't as bad as it sounds, home I never find out .... a few hours from now we have an appointment at a local restaurant to listen to a sale's pitch (and eat for free) .... that should be a fairly full day .... currently 67, supposed to drop to 39 tonight .... beautiful, clear, sunny sky .... ran supposed to be on tap for Thursday

Good morning, it was 48° when I got up, 52 now and a thunderstorm will be here shortly. Raining most of the morning. A high of 64° later.
Just slipped out here for a bit, thinking something might be moving ahead of the storm.

Kwik Trip offers a free drink and breakfast sandwich which I bought on Monday. I thought of getting it free but said nothing and paid for it.

For a few decades after returning to the states it was not popular to have gone to Vietnam and I became a closet vet. I’m okay now around other vets but seldom will wear a hat as I still feel uncomfortable.
