Turkey hunting

Post by Guide » Wed Oct 16, 2024 1:01 pm

I’m thinking of doing some turkey hunting next year. In southern Maine we’re almost over run with them. Most of the ones I see are in areas I don’t know if I can hunt. I’ll get owners permission in writing as I always do unless I know it’s available. I’m thinking of scoping out the area. Maybe look for signs. Is it possible to call even if it’s not season and get responses? A lot of places I hunt deer we don’t see them. Also what calls do you recommend, I’ve looked at a ton of videos everyone says this is best or that’s best. Box calls, slate calls. Diaphragm calls. Any help appreciated. Is camouflage required, I would think colors similar to background, maybe face cover or some color cammo face paint. I don’t guide hunters only fishing and recreation didn’t want the hunting guide classification foo much liability for hunters. Plus I work with game wardens and they all say hunters are some of their biggest problem people. It can be hard dealing with someone with a loaded weapon and an attitude.

Any help appreciated
