night right on time. Still, it looks like a really nice day and even week is in the offing.

Coffee with "plain Jane" this morning. Breakfast is eggs and cheese, jowl bacon and English muffin.
Work around the place today.

33 here in grouse/shooting camp. But it’s supposed to be a nice day with temps in the upper 60’s to lower 70’s and sunny. Should bring those grouses out for some sunnin’. We’re heading out here in a bit.

41 here in camp, we had clouds come in last evening that kept the temps warmer. Today should be in the low 70’s with partly cloudy skies. Crazy, starting tomorrow the temps are expected to hit the mid 80’s in Spokane which should be the upper 70’s here near the Canadian border. Pretty warm for the end of September. Maybe even a shower or two. But starting Thursday we can expect a return to normal temps.

Only had a short hunt yesterday and came up zippo. It’s so dry up here I don’t think the birds are around. We will be hitting a place that may have some water today so hopefully…. It seems like every year there are less and less birds. When Mrs hatchdog and I first started grouse camp around 15 years ago we were in birds constantly. And there was a lot more water around including just puddles in the road.

Biggest issue of the day is after the hunt do I do my work limbing some trees and finish the weed whacking? Or do I get the fun tools out and do some plinking. My common sense says to do the work today before the temps go up but my little devil says, “go plinking”.

A warm one this morning at 51. It got hot yesterday and is supposed to be on the warm side for the first part of the day today. Then we expect winds with gusts to 45 and scattered thunderstorms. It looks like here in camp we may get a storm. We’re heading out for a morning hunt once it gets light. Yesterday we finally saw some grouse but were only able to put one in the fridge. If we don’t get any today we’re planning on having our traditional last day in camp dinner of New York steak accompanied by a grouse appetizer.

Our nine month old pup made the retrieve without hesitation but wanted to play keep away. He’s pretty fearless.

50 up here in our last day of grouse camp. The forecast storm came in last night but here in camp it wasn’t too bad. Strong winds and some rain which is continuing this morning. We lost power at dinner time and had to run the generator. This morning it’s restored. I guess back at home the storm was more serve with stronger winds and more rain. Happy about the rain. Got notices that both our power and internet were out.

Once it gets light we’ll make the decision to make one more hunt or pack up for home. The moon and stars were poking out from the clouds when i was out with the dogs a while ago but it also was raining.

We’ve had a couple of great range days but my cell service for internet is very sketchy so I will wait until I get home to share the fun.

I used to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning but I seem to be losing my taste
for coffee. I have a Keurig and I drink decaf but just can't find one I like. Currently
It's Folgers. Any suggestions?

Back home again and it’s 46 here. Daylights still a bit away so it may drop a degree or two. Nice day expected sunny and in the 70’s. Might even see 80 tomorrow but then we expect more typical temps with highs in the 60’s. Busy day ahead with unloading and putting away gear from our trip. Then in the next week I’ll probably change the oil and winterize the motorhome and say “see ya in the spring”.

Try some Camano Island coffee. It's expensive at $40 for 2lbs but it's made from the best Arabica beans and is freshly roasted and ground shortly before shipment. You do have to join their auto-ship program to get free shipping but you can reschedule shipment dates and frequency anytime. They have many different varieties but only one in Keurig pods so if you want decaf you would need a re-usable pod.

I'm like you as I usually just have one cup in the morning, I have a re-usable Keurig pod and a pound will last me around a month. They send you a email shortly before shipping your coffee so you can re-schedule if needed.

I'm recovering from my surgery quite well. Yesterday I put leaf guards on
the gutters on my shop as well as several smaller jobs. I felt good again.
Today I'm taking a day off and Carol and I are meeting friends at a October
fest at our favorite supper club. They set up in the parking lot with a band,
food truck, beer trucks, ect. Gonna be fun.

39 here in the Inland Pacific NW and the sun is cracking the horizon. It’s supposed to be in the upper 70’s to lower 80’s today and then a big drop tomorrow with highs 15-18 degrees colder. And more wind. I got home to a carpet of pine needles from the wind storm earlier this week. Got all the lawn areas cleaned up but will wait on the gravel driveway until after tomorrow’s wind.

You got me by 17 years, nearly a generation. Lots of respect for you and what you are able to do at 84.


Interesting day today. We are under two weather alerts. First a fire watch today due to high winds and low humidity. Then overnight a freeze warning. Kinda like the Game of Thrones books Fire and Ice. Very warm this morning at 59 but the high is only supposed to be 65 so not much increase.

Got the motorhome all cleaned inside and out, waste and water tanks dumped and fuel tank filled. Not ready to winterize it just yet in case we get a wild hair and go somewhere before winter. But if not it’s ready for storage other than winterizing/oil change.
