Back From The Mountains

Post by Deadwood Dutch » Tue Nov 29, 2016 6:40 pm

Just got back from the farm and the mountains in North Eastern Pa. Been hunting there since 1969. Saw some old friends and hunted deer. We heard some shooting and saw doe that we could have shot but we don't shoot doe in this neck of the woods. I speak for my son and myself. If we had seen a legal buck with at least 3 points or more to one side we would have taken a shot. Some were taken there. Good times, good friends, good food and a couple of beers after the hunt, what it's all about. Nice country. We may go again weather permitting. It was beautiful on Monday but rainy today. My son and grandson, who already got a six point buck this year, will continue to hunt in Maryland where there are many more deer per square mile. They can be selective there as to how big of a deer that they want to shoot. One of these photos is of one of the tree stands with the seat folded in the upright position which is where it stays when not in use, then just fold it down when getting into it. I am sure that you guys that use them are aware. My son shot a 10 pointer out of this stand two years ago and had a shoulder mount made. Look closely and you can see the climbing steps screwed into the tree. A safety harness is worn when climbing.

Nice to read about, Dutch. Beautiful country. It sounds like you had a really great time with family and friends. Awesome.

So the first pic is Australia? Glad you made it back to PA to do some hunting :D

Lovely country to hunt, for sure. I can understand your love for it.

BTW, It's the same rules where I hunt; at least 3 points on one side. I don't even bother buying a deer stamp.

Yes, the idea being that the antler restrictions will help to provide more mature bucks with larger racks. They started this a few years ago. Some people say it is working.

That is a beautiful area. I have driven through there a lot and am always tempted to stop for a few days.
I hope the weather gives you a chance to go back and get that trophy buck.
