When Dad was in The Blues, he was the COs RIO in number 7. (radar Intercept Officer/Backseater, Think Goose in Top Gun)

The RIO didn't fly in the Airshow. For a while, DAD was the narrator. I have his binder now that he has passed, with the pilot bios and all from the late 60s when the Blues flew F4s. I have several other cool keepsakes including an unopened briefing pack for the new show prep they would hand out before they'd start practicing the new season each year. Old school, mimiographed, shrink wrapped.
:D No digital back then.

Back in the day slides were the go to color film for an awful lot of photographers. For one thing, the color reproduction was unmatched by print film. It also made for convenient viewing by groups. Now it's easy to connect a large screen TV up to a laptop to display digital images.

The bad news with slides is that if you don't nail the exposure in the camera, you're out of luck.

I shot a lot of slides in the old days, (Back in the 70s,) for exactly the reasons you stated, especially being able to show a group. On our weekends we'd hang a sheet outside and put up the projector and share the slides we had taken. These were shot at a friend's farm. One of his sisters painted one of the barn shots and the wildflower shot as Christmas Gifts for family. Both views were from my friends home in one corner of the acreage. The house across the wildflowers belongs to his Grandmother and Grandfather. In the lower corner of the parcel are his aunt and uncle at the far end of the thirty acres. Family Harmony.

Living in the suburbs of Richmond at the time, I spent a lot of time at this farm, as did MOST of our group. 30 acres of heaven, away from everything. I was welcome to come and go as I pleased, his mom would leave me a note if she knew I was expected asking me to knock out a chore if the kids were all working. I worked midnights up until I went into the Corps. She knew it would get done.

The only thing in the little town at the time was an antique store, a transmission shop that could repair ANYTHING, and a huge welding shop that could weld ANYTHING, the last two businesses owned by brothers. Between the two of them, they could make it roll again.

Sadly, progress struck. This area has been swallowed by progress and is now bumper to bumper traffic eight lanes wide. Shopping malls and condos, apartment complexes and quickie lubes. I guess that's what they mean by "You can't go home again." ;)
