My dad was in the Navy during the early 1950s. He was an electrician's mate on carriers, and has a ton of slides from both a Med cruise, and another to Japan. I remember him setting up the screen in the living room and showing his slides when I was a kid growing up. It seems that slides were the way to go back then. He had a few stories from those days.....actually had a bunch I'm sure, but we were kids and this was family, so not all the stories were shared. He's 94 now and I am going to ask him if he'd set that stuff up and do another little presentation for us.

And on another note, seeing the airshow pics, makes me remember one they have every year in late August at the Sussex County Airport in northwestern NJ. It's a small, single strip airport, and lots of fly-ins before they shut down the airport for the show. Went to that for years. At the end of the show, when they were opening the strip back up for general use, there was an announcer that would stay on the PA system and give a little blurb about every single aircraft that was turning onto the runway and taking off. At first you almost wouldn't even notice him talking, but after a while, that part became one of my favorite parts of the show. That guy knew every single airplane and had a couple interesting facts to share about every one. We'd stay long after the show just to listen to him give his little send-off for every one.
