Funny you mention Dale Earnhardt. I was thinking the same exact thing soon after. I also remember that Bristol race. Kenny Wallace had an interesting video on it last night, also reminiscing Dale and the old days of RCR.

Xfinity race starts in a couple of hours, SVG qualified 19th, could be on for a good result given the Kaulig cars look to have reasonable pace with team mates AJ and Josh Williams both qualifying inside the top 10.

A race to forget for SVG never got near the top 10 all day and involved in a late race wreck.
He wasnt alone and a few other regular front runners had similar days, I guess that is what happens when you have no practice and a single qualifying lap, You might be able to drive around setup issues for a single quali lap but will spend the race chasing setup if the car didnt roll off the trailer in the window.
He gets another chance today in Cup starting from 32nd but the Fords look to have the single lap pace claiming the top 6 spots and 11 of the top 15 places in qualifying.

He got it because after wrecking others for the win he would find them and apologize, then go out and do the same thing next race and apologize again. ,

Was looking like a better night for SVG, announced he will be driving cup full time in a 3rd trackhouse car, ran a few laps inside the top 10 before his engine let go.

Really thought Kyle Busch had it, but congrats to Harrison Burton and the Wood Bros Team on their 100th win, Nascar's oldest continuous running team from Stuart, Virginia.

Was expecting SVG to perform a bit better at Darlington given its the second visit this season but only P26 in qualifying.
Big difference in the race and unlike most races where he has been happy to sit around his qualifying place for the first few stages, learn the track log some laps and then start working his way forward in the final stage he was on the pace from the start in yesterdays xfinity race.
Worked through the field to finish the first stage in 11th, had the pace and looked like a top 10 car all day, P7 in the end after a late race caution, Had very good pace on old tires and P5 was looking possible until the yellow and everyone pitted.

Think a top 20 would be a good result in the cup race for him today, all about running laps and getting experience in the cup car before next year. He is scheduled to run most of the remaining cup races this season

What a night. I'm wore out. Kyle Busch almost did it again, but congrats to Chase Briscoe for not only the Darlington win but, of course, a spot in the playoffs for a team that's folding next year and a driver who I believe is not even sure where he is going. Although his market value just went way up.

Not Nascar but another race win for scotty mac in Indycar that keeps him in the championship hunt mathematically going into the last round.
I think he is a very good indicator of what SVG might be able to do in cup.
Both made the switch from supercars in Aus to the USA as multi time champions, neither had any real oval experience. Like SVG scotty mac had top 5 finishes on ovals in his rookie season but has taken to his 4th year to get a win and become an oval force.
Took a little while but this season he is arguably the best oval racer in IndyCar, 2 race wins, multiple poles, most laps lead on ovals, he leads the metrics for just about everything on ovals this season.
No doubt Justin Marks and those at trackhouse are well aware of scotty macs evolution into the dominant oval racer in Indycar when they made the decision to put SVG in their 3rd cup car next season. When Marks said it was an easy decision it probably was, you have a driver who will be challenging for race wins on road courses in his rookie season probably qualify for the playoffs and in a few years may be among the best oval racers as well.
I am still hoping we get to see Scotty Mac in Nascar at some stage, in Supercars he was probably better than SVG, like SVG he has shown that speed does translate to other series and he is 4 years younger so still time. Maybe if he can win Rodger a championship next year we might see it happen.

P12 SVG in Xfinity at Atlanta qualifying, ran top 10 early in the first stage before getting shuffled back, P9 at the end of the second stage. Looks to have a bit of pace and seems to be learning when and where it is worth going 2 wide for a pass and when he is better lifting and staying in line.
Top 5 might be possible today if he can get it right.

Looks like i have jinxed him again, running comfortably in the top 10 in stage 3 and brushed the wall.
Not the first to do it today while running near the front and another one he can put down to a learning experience and use going forward into the playoffs.

Have to say a good day for SVG in the first Xfinity play off race.
Fairly typical race day for him at a new track, practiced around the 30th place, qualified mid 20's. Ran mid 20's for the first stage. 2nd stage he moved up to the mid teens. Looked to have reasonable long run pace, pit strategy and a caution had him restart towards the back of the top 10 early in the 3rd stage, dropped back to the mid teens on the restart and then with it running green until the finish he slowly worked his way forward to finish 8th.
No stage points but with a few non playoff cars in the top 10 it should see him stay comfortably above the cut line.
With the next race Talladega anyone could win, SVG has run well on the super speedways the final race before the round of 8 is the roval and given his performances on road courses only a DNF will stop him winning or at least scoring good points.
Todays result has given him a very good shot at making the round of 8 even without a win to progress.
