No gold in the pool for Aus but we did win one in the tennis with the mens doubles.

Hope Katie Ledecky gets the recognition she deserves in the USA, to win an Olympic gold is a real achievement, to defend it even harder, to win the same event at 4 consecutive Olympics nearly impossible and she is talking about going for 5.

We were close and came down to the last swimming event but not quite good enough and had to settle for the silver.

Gold and bronze for Ukraine in womens high jump, silver and bronze for Australia, gold was tied on height and determined on countback, bronze couldnt be separated on countback and athletes decided to share 3rd place instead of going to a jump off.

I'm really enjoying being able to switch between a couple channels to see different events. Watched some table tennis (ping pong) and that is on a whole different level with how they spin that ball. Caught the end of a Men's Field Hockey game between India and Great Britain, and India won that in a shoot-out. Been seeing a lot of handball, which is kinda like soccer or field hockey, but seems you can't go into that darker colored area around the goal. A rules explanation would help, but I guess they figure if we want to know, we'll google it. They really are showing different events and different athletes/teams than just the US.

A gold for Australian Noemie Fox in the women's canoe slalom, has been competing at senior international level for 9 years and only qualified for her first Olympics on the back of a 2nd place finish at the last WC event prior to the Olympics.
Her father is a 2x Olympian with a best finish of 4th and 10 WC gold to his name, her mother has 8 WC gold an Olympic bronze and was a 2x Olympian, her aunt a 2x Olympian with 4 WC medals, her older sister Jessica is also competing in Paris at her 4th Olympics having won 4 Olympic medals at the 3 previous games is #2 ranked in slalom and has already won 2 gold in Paris.

Noemie won all her heats, QF & SFs eliminating her sister from the competition in the process. Dont think I have seen a family as happy with a member winning gold. They are the first siblings to win gold for Aus in individual events, we have had plenty do it in team sports but never individual events and between them have swept the womens white water gold. Poor old dad is now the only one in the family without an Olympic medal to his name.

Last night they had Men's Rapid Fire Pistol on TV. No US competitors, but they showed the whole finals. Very cool!

Australia still sitting 3rd behind China and USA on gold medals, won another today in skateboarding.
Track cycling has kicked off, won a bronze in the mens team sprint, they have been ranked among the top teams all century won world champs been ranked #1 but just havent been able to get it done at the Olympics finishing 4th at the last 5, might not be gold but finally they have a medal.
Looking forward to the womens 400m hurdles think it will be a great race between Femke Bol and Sydney McLaughlin they are just in another class compared to everyone else. Both won their SF easily, looked to be jogging the races but still pulling away from the rest of the field.

3 more gold for Australia in track cycling, sailing and skateboarding to take us to 17 gold.
Equals our bet ever gold medal count, still need another 20 medals to get to our best overall medal total.

As good a day as we have ever had followed by our first day at these games without a gold, a couple of silver, and a couple of boxers lost their semi finals so bronze.
Highlight was probably our womens water polo defeating USA to advance to the gold medal match.
Sydney McLaughlin performed as I expected winning the womens 400m hurdles in WR time, unreal to think her time would have qualified her for the 400m flat at these olympics.

Another silver day for Aus 2nd in the mens sprint cycling to the Dutch, split the Chinese in the 3m womens diving and lost again to the USA in the womens basketball. Lauren Jackson adds a 4th silver to her Olympic basketball medal tally 24 years and 7 Olympics after the first. If we win silver or bronze in Womens basketball seems to depend on if we play USA in the semi finals or final.
Still sitting 3rd with 18 gold and 48 medals in total, with finals in some team sports still to come we will almost certainly pass 50 total medals and possibly 20 gold.
