Don’t blame you at all on the 17 K-22 Travelin those older K 22’s are good guns. Ive also had Rugers sent back one was a recall and the other was a barrel issue on a PC carbine. I will soon know about the GP-100 22 as I pulled the trigger on one.

Congrats Al, you’re putting together a nice group of 22 handguns. I’m like you, I prefer lower recoiling guns these days and shooting my 38 special plated low velocity loads in my L frame just makes me smile. The 44 and the 41 went down the road a few years ago.

Gun came in today at the gun store. I went there to fill out the paperwork. Our new antigun law here in Colorado now says I gotta wait 3 days to pick it up. I can tell you I was able to give it a once over and I really like the way it feels and the action is very nice. I can’t wait to put some rounds down range. I hope to do that Monday. The gun shop owner was also impressed with it and ordered one for the store. I will post my thoughts after I shoot it.

No range report on the GP just a Ruger report. Its on its way back to Ruger. Pay 800.00 for a firearm these days and get to send it back. I dont know how this happened with the barrel but its sad. It also hangs up when shooting it single action. I put quite a few rounds threw it hoping it might smooth out. About wore the end of my thumb off cocking it. It also will hang at times in double action. 4 to 6 week turn around on a brand new gun. Kinda makes me think I might be done buying guns.

I feel your pain, Al, I really do. I wish I could say it was only Ruger, but it's not. My new, out of the box, S&W 617 22 LR had to make two trips back to S&W for mistakes that should have been caught at the factory. At our local gun store, I look at the new Colt remakes of the famous Colt snake revolvers and shudder at the 5 pound plus SA pulls and then I see all the posts about these new Colts going back to Colt to fix problems.

I'm not one of those older is better grouches, but in the case of revolvers, I've found that my odds of getting a solid, properly function revolver are better if I stay pre-90s era revolvers, prior to the arrival of CNC machining and the industry switching over to semi-autos as the primary focus of production. I can supply reasons, but I'll just say my track record has been much better with the older stuff and leave it at that. Oh, I've had some lemons with vintage guns, too, but nowhere near as many.

I recently bought a 617. It seemed ok at the shop but when I went to fire it just didnt seem as smooth to me as it should. After about 400 rounds it started to act like it should. The cylinder was also very sticky when opening. I dry fired it quite a little while shooting it leave 10 empties in the cylinder. It was after doing that a couple of times it started to function better. I since cleaned it and went out to shoot it again. It functioned alot better the second time. I dont care for the black and black sights so Im putting a fiber optic front sight on it. I also have a 686 that is now at the gunsmiths with a rear sight that had a canted rear sight blade. My bad I didnt catch that when I bought it but while he has that one Im having him smooth up the rough action. So yes you are right its everywhere. All I gotta say is it sucks

The single action pull on my 627 is actually good. That was a plus when inspecting it at the store, since my plan was some serious target shooting. The DA pull is heavy and gritty, though. Not so good. I figured it would smooth out with use and went ahead and bought it.

I can't help comparing all my revolvers to my 1930s made Colt Officer 22 Target, though. It's in such good shape that I know it hasn't been smoothed up with use and I know it hasn't been to a gunsmith because other Colt Officers I've inspected feel exactly the same when you work the action. The DA pull is so smooth that I worried about FTFs, but that turned out not to be an issue. It's been perfect as far as function. And the accuracy ... well, you get the idea.

Yesterday I got the shipping box from Ruger to return this GP-100. I boxed it up yesterday afternoon and ran it to Fedex. Its on its way back. Im still really just bummed out about this entire deal. Seems like alot of companys are letting the customer do there quality control work for them. Sad

Good plan Dave but Im gonna let them have a crack at and see how it returns. If I need to send it back again then I will try an email with my frustrations. I did call them again today and talk to a gentleman that was helpful in getting the return address right that they had wrong. I read good things about there customer service so we shall see.

Just got the shipping email from Ruger. They replaced the barrel and ejector in the pistol. Fired 50 rounds through it with no issues. Should have it back Friday as it’s coming 2 day Fedex

Me, too, Al. My local shop has one of those for sale and, have to say, I really like the feel and balance and everything seems fine with it, but I'm a bit spooked about taking a chance on it. Yours is not the only story I've read about problems with this gun. On the other hand, I don't shoot the 22 revolvers I already have enough, so probably doesn't make sense adding another. One thing about DA Ruger revolvers, though - once you get one running right, you can't wear one out. Hope yours works for you, now. I'm betting it will and that you will love shooting it.

Thanks Dave and NCG. When it in in my hands I will post again on what I think. I remember those days when you could pick up a S&W Model 17 K-22 Masterpiece pull that nice wide hammer back and it was smooth as glass. Those days are gone.

Al, it's kind of sad that so many young shooters don't shoot revolvers now, let alone those vintage revolvers we have known. The shooting world sure has changed a lot over my years of shooting.
