Sorry the old Roger Miller song came to mind as I bought this utility trailer today. My new garage isn’t even completed and I’m already buying stuff to put in it. But now I can buy the tall ladder and lumber and be able to haul it home.

As the garage slowly fills with more important stuff I’ll eventually park the trailer out in the weather.

Thanks all. When I had the Transit Connect I was able to haul things as it was a cargo van. My Transit is a passenger van and not suitable for cargo so a utility trailer will really get used.

I suspect there will be next summer. Almost everyone here has one and it’s common to have a neighbor stop by with one. People drive them across fields taking the most direct route and avoiding the longer roads.

Aluma is a great brand. Far from the least expensive in the utility trailer market but you pay for quality.

Both of my utility trailers (a 7X20 double axle and a 6X14 single axle) have wooden decks and although I keep them under a shed, deterioration of the deck from rot and splintering is a consideration. Not something which will ever cause you worry.

I think you will find it incredibly handy.

I bought it from a man & wife business where they didn’t have corporate expenses. They also had the biggest selection with about 50 to choose from compared to the dozen the big box stores had. There little niche market made them very affordable.

I have the same problem with mine plus I’ve had to use them in the winter with the ice melter on the streets. I’m getting some rust which I hate. Sure wish they were aluminum like Sir Henry’s.

BTW, I can’t get the song out of my head. A buddy put a bunch of music on my playlist including several songs from Roger Miller. Every time one comes up in the rotation I start laughing. Great stuff, dang me!

I am actually in the market for a third utility trailer, one specific to a perceived need. I want a 5X12 utility trailer to transport an ATV and a small ag chemical sprayer. 5X12 is a somewhat uncommon bed size for a utility trailer but if I buy one, I can load the ag sprayer connected to the ATV for transport to food plots in an adjacent county with the ag sprayer full of glyphosate/water. There is no clean water source at the acreage so I want to transport the sprayer full and also, to carry a 75-gallon tank for a couple more refills. With the sprayer full and the 75-gallon tank full, that gives me over 100 gallons to spray with and this is sufficient. With a utility trailer shorter than 12 feet in length, say the more common sized 5X10 utility trailer, I could not transport ATV connected to the sprayer full of water and product. I could do this with the 6X14 utility trailer but I think the 5X12 would be easier to pull.

It seems that at least one of the utility trailers I currently own has something in it that needs to be removed before I use it and that can be bothersome.

In the Southeast, at least in South Carolina, Aluma dealers are not common but I did locate a repo 5X12 Aluma at a dealer some eighty miles (maybe a bit less) from my house but at $3,500 asking, I am not sure I can do that. $3,500 for a used Aluma seems high to me. In all probability, I will end up with a steel tube top trailer but that Aluma would be nice.

That does seem a bit high priced. From what I've seen, that close to the price of a new one of that approximate size, and that is MSRP.
Of course I could be wrong though. Maybe Sir Henry could shed some light on this based on what he paid.

I agree it seems a bit high priced since it is two years old and a repo trailer. I haven't contacted the dealer to see if he will come off of that price with a significant reduction but I speculate since it is an Aluma trailer, he won't offer much of a reduction if any.

I can get a new Superior Trailers of Georgia Elite 5X12 utility trailer with a spare tire for under $1,000 less than that. Steel, not aluminum, but brand new. My 6X14 trailer is a Superior and I know it to be of good construction and I speculate their new trailers are also of good construction.

I have a champagne taste but a beer budget.

I can understand the taste and budget for sure.
My trailer (believe it or not) is about 18 years old. I bought it new from Home Depot to carry my 4-Wheeler and it has served me well. It is steel and measures about 5x7 something. Back then it was about $600.00 or so. I've taken really good care of it and as a result it is still in very good shape, ( A few paint touch-ups along the way as well as lube and new tires when needed.)
I would love to have an Aluma, but at that price it aint gonna happen. I understand your size needs, so paying more, even if its steel is probably a given. IMO the steel should serve you ok if you cover it or garage it especially given your location, (SC) and I'm in (NC).
Sir Henry and North Country Gal are in Wisconsin. If I lived in that climate zone, then I would probably find a way to afford the Aluma.

I paid $2,985 out the door with the alloy rimmed spar tire. Mine is a 5x10. I did not get the stake sides.

I brought home a Superior Trailers of Georgia 5X12 utility trailer only a day or so ago and I am pleased with it. Good construction (good welds and stout metal) and I think I will be pleased with it. It is a tube top with a pressure treated wood deck and 15" rims. Almost exactly $500 less than Sir Henry paid but that is out the door, including a mounted spare. If I could have gotten the deal on a Aluma trailer that Sir Henry paid, I would have jumped on it but he got a deal that is hard to match.

If you are in the marked for a utility trailer, you might give Superior Trailers of Georgia a look. Since trailer manufacturing seems to be a regional thing, I am not sure they are available out of the Southeast but I am not at all sure of that.
