A beautiful day coming up and my back doesn't hurt right now.

It’s a very warm 63 out there and I just enjoyed a cup of coffee on the patio with the dogs. We have a cloud cover come in keeping yesterday’s warmth in but unfortunately all the rain stayed east in the Idaho panhandle. Not a drop for us. I was hoping to do some more mowing in the trees today with the rain but not to be. No rain in the forecast for the next week.

A big warm up for the 4th of July weekend with 90’s on tap by Saturday. Great for all the campers and lake people. Our plan is to stay away from both camping and lakeing and let the poor working folks enjoy the long weekend. But we do plan to take the pontoon boat to Roosevelt tomorrow for a shakedown cruise. Hopefully the launch won’t be too crowded. I’ve launched and operated many boats in my time but this will be my first adventure with a pontoon. Could be interesting…

We came home from church and found our wood cutter stuck in the woods. He's really a nice guy
and tries to heat all winter with just wood so he has the money to pay for his son's educations.
I got the old 8N out and we managed to get him out after some maneuvering around a bit.
Man, he was buried right up to the frame of his old Dodge pickup.
Came into the house and was rewarded with a nice omelet.
Life is good.

Pontoons rule. Once you get used to it you'll love it Hatch.

The Merc is a 90 with the Command Thrust transmission. The guy I got it from put a four blade prop on it to increase the rmp’s. It will be interesting to see how it preforms. I have never driven a pontoon boat so I don’t know what to expect. This one has the lifting strakes on the pontoons which I understand helps with performance. Just another old man wearing a hat driving down the lake with his blinker on!

I’m sure it will move along just fine. Do you know what the max HP it’s rated for? I try to always hang the max off a boat. It’s easy to only go to 3/4 throttle, but if you have to run from weather, it’s nice to have all you can.

My $1,500 and 50 year old boat has still yet to be out on anything other than the kicker this year. I bought it for about 1/10 of its value as I knew it needed new controls and a bit of tuning. It has a new 4bbl on the small block and I haven’t got it dialled in yet. Controls are great, but it needs a carb expert to spend a 1/2 hour with it. I’ve fished it 4 or 5 days, but if the winds pick up, I have to get off the water quick. The 9.9 high thrust is great, but no match for a 24’ ocean boat when the wind hits. At least all the teak is looking good!

Max HP is 150 so my 90 is in the middle of the range. In my boat search I found many with 60’s on them which I figured would be way underpowered for towing a tube. It’s a 21 ft boat so the 90 will be fine for cruising but probably stretched a bit pulling the kids around. But tubing is a once a year event so the 90 should serve us well.

Big Al, yep, I’m not looking forward for my first docking in the wind. I look at this boat on the trailer and man there’s a lot of square feet of sail on it. Many years ago I had a 28’ mid cabin cruiser that sat very high on the water and it was a bear in the wind to get into the slip.

Good morning, 68 when I woke, 70 now with 73% humidity and a high in the mid 80's. 90's the rest of the week with rain in the forecast in the later part.

Myself have never owned a boat or even had the desire to so.
My friend has a pretty decent size pontoon, not sure of it's exact length, his has a 115hp engine. He took us and the grandkids out the other day. We try and get them down there at least once while they are here visiting. They'll be headed home this coming Saturday.

After my whining yesterday about no rain man did we get wet. Had several storms pass thru dropping .51 inch of rain in my area. Also had a moderate thunderstorm last night which was the pups first experience with thunder. He did mostly fine other than one time we were outside and a big boom happened right above us and he jumped a bit and was happy to go back into the house.

This morning it’s 58 with some light fog and of course very high humidity. High is expected to be in the upper 70’s with sunshine. Big warmup this weekend with temps in the mid 90’s. We postponed our shakedown cruise until tomorrow as there is a chance of thunderstorms in the area we will be boating in. So today we can take care of the licensing and insurance tasks and my wife wants to go “shopping” at the boat accessory store. That could get expensive.

Ive owned 1 boat and was partners in on another boat. I must of had some serious stupid take over on the second boat which I owned outright as I think boat ownership in Colorado isnt very smart. Maybe a little fishing boat if your heavy into the fishing life. But the lakes here are so crowded you cannot hardly get on the water. Launch the boat and park a mile away. I did do one thing with that boat that I have a fond memory of and thats Lake Powell from one end to the other. Im not sure that was worth what I paid for the boat but its done now and the boat was sold about 7 years ago. Boats in Washington make more sense than they do here. But I cant afford to live in Washington.

Rambling, several storylines at same time and not a lot of character development to make you want to come back for more. Just my opinion. Save yourself the money and re-watch Lonesome Dove for a great example of real story telling where the genre is the backdrop.
