H4895 is a very vestal powder I was able to score some several weeks ago. One thing about H4895 you can reduce the loads to 60% and still get good results.
In most circles, H4895 is like BigFoot. Everyone knows about it, but it's never where you want it when you want it to be there.
Lots of people heard that some H4895 was available at whatever shop or on-line vendor, but it's never there when you go look for it. With how applicable it is for such a wide range of cartridges, you'd think that St. Marks would be regularly producing that stuff for Hodgdon, but I guess not. I, for one, have not seen it and I've been keeping my eye out for it for more than a while now.

For those that have some, keep that stuff stored properly, it's good stuff!

Curious as to what powder will fill in for Unique[.38 spl, .357 mag, 45 acp, .45 Colt etc.] Hope Unique isn't gone for good. I'm doing pretty good, but, wondering what others might use.

Unique and Universal are similar, though not identical. I've used both in .38 spl and with .357 mag (with lighter jacketed bullets). I also use HP-38 for .38 spl with jacketed bullets.

AA#5, HS-6 AA#7 and some say BE 86 is working. I havent tested it but I think Forty has shot some. I just loaded some Red Dot in 357 and it worked ok. But Red Dot is Allaint to so Im not sure how much of it will be around. Universal Clays does work if you can find it. But I havent seen any of it for quite some time

For 38 Special type loads and mid level 357 Mag I have been using Power Pistol with great results with 158 gr. MB cast bullets.

Working on some 45-70 ammo now with my favorite plinking load of 405 gr. cast bullet over 13 gr. Unique. Was getting low on those.

Al, I've heard the same about AA#5. Might pick up a pound to have on hand. Some of our favorites are becoming very difficult to find. A good back-up is always handy. Thanks for the reply Al.

Really? Unless you have an endless supply, you'd best have a damn good back-up. Just saying.
I've got six pounds of Unique, but I want someting that works with my handguns along with my other powders. Preparedness is king.

Piled more stuff on it that I need to put away later. Bench is multipurpose not just for reloading. I have plenty of factory as well as reloads on-hand anyway.

I bit the bullet, so to speak, yesterday and picked up 8lbs of h110, and 1k federal magnum LPP.

I'm going to load some 240, 250, 300 JHP, and 280 TCGC, 300 RNFP GC, 300 RNFP Coated, 320 RNFP Coated 45 colt bullets.

I'll save up for some 357 mag brass and load up a bunch of that using h110 also.

I have about 4lbs of 4227 left, so I may save that for the 357 mag.

Well, I just finished a 100 45 colts myself.
Some 200 gr rfn over some Red dot,
half at 6.0 grs., and the others at 6.5 grs.
A silhouette shooter I was talking with a while back said he had good results on the rams with the 6.0 gr load so I thought I'd try a few.
Had a little help with the seating and crimping, the 4 & 7 year olds wanted to do a few.

H110 in .45 Colt? Curious as to where the data is from. I could see VV 110, but H110? whoo-whee!

The only data I've found for H110 and 45 colt is with a 250 gr xtp or heavier jacketed stuff, and that was under the (Ruger/TC) only section.
Nothing in cast.

Lee's book has H110 through a range of bullet weights, from 225 up to 360. Hodgedon's manual does also. Yeah, like 4227, it allows you to reach some magnum levels of performance out of the cartridge...

For reference,
Blue bullet 320grns 21 grains of h110.
Matts 305 SWCGC, 21.8grns of h110
Cast performance 300grnlfnGC, 21.8 grns of h110
Sierra 300JSP 21.8 grns
Hornaday 300 XTP, 21.83grns
Mats 285grn TCGC, 22.0grns
Hornaday 250xtp, 25.7 h110
Hornaday 240 xtp Mag, 27.2 H110
Sierra 240grn JHP 27.2 H110.
Image

When it stops being hotter than hell out there, I'll run them through my model 83 and see they perform on the chrony.

45 colt *plinkers* 250grn blue bullets, 8.0 grns BE86.

The 7 yo grandson and I sized and primed another 120 45 colt cases yesterday afternoon.
I resized and he expanded and primed. ;)

Hank Williams Jr used alot of 4227 in 45 Colt. If my memory serves me correctly I think his pet load was around 20 gr. Me myself I have never had much success with H110 in anything. But I know others have. Maybe its just me not wanting to shoot full throttle loads like you need to do with H110
