Thanks. It’s amazing how much better I feel now. Most of the pain is gone and I can walk unassisted. I’ll be discharged tomorrow.

I’m home and feeling really good. I can’t lift much but I can walk up to five miles a day. Plus I can do stairs. Now it’s just 4-6 weeks of getting my strength back. If I can make it 30 days without an infection my life expectancy goes back to normal.

Yes I can drive if I’m not taking Oxy. They only last four hours and I’m only taking two a day one morning and one night instead of two every four hours. So even though I can drive I don’t need to go anywhere today.

I took my first real shower in six days and gave myself a full visual examination. I feel good and am not in pain but I look quite torn up with incisions and needle pokes. I’m bruised all over.

Yes they took about 40%. The tumor was larger than expected and took 5.5 hours. I had a team of three doctors who each worked in half hour shifts while the other time assisting. They told me there was a total of twelve people in the room. That number included two lab technicians that were examining the tissue as they cut it out. I was awake when they wheeled me in and the room was huge with people running around getting ready.

Awakening in recovery was about the same. The wing had 18 beds and there were about two dozen RNs, CNAs and people at computers organizing everything.

I went into AFib and they called in three heart specialists who where there within minutes. I’m now on a med to slow my heart and I’m being monitored live via satellite. In a couple weeks I’ll go off the slowing med and go on a blood thinner.

Yes I’m very beat up but doing great.

I had a similar experience at the Mayo. They wheeled me into an operating room that looked like the bridge of the starship Enterprise. Huge screens and lots of people. That's the last I remember until the recovery room.

Many years ago I had a very complicated surgery on my foot that took over 10 hrs. Since it was on my foot they just used a local and heavy sedation instead of total anesthesia, woke up a couple times during the surgery and when I came to after the surgery I felt terrible but it was more from the after affects of the sedation than the surgery. They seem to have much better drugs now, have had several minor surgeries fairly recently and have felt fine when I woke up. Even with my knee replacement 10 years ago I didn't really have any aftereffects from the anesthesia.

Also remember the old anesthesia taking a little while to take affect, you would start to feel drowsy for a few seconds before going out. Now you're wide awake watching and listening to all the people and then you're waking up in the recovery room.

From your description it sounds like they took good care of you and were cautious about what they were doing. Also sounds like they are very patient oriented in giving you all the information that you should have. Im glad things are going well.

The operating room I was in was about 2,000sf and had two tables. They were capable of doing a transplant where the donor and recipient were in the same room.

Yes they knew I had a 4.5 hour ride home and wanted to take the last pain meds at the last minute. I was officially released five minutes early and had a five minute stop to pick up things at the pharmacy. During that five minute my ride showed up and I got into the car about two minutes later. Medications and bloodwork were all done within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. Even the sugar test was done within 15 minutes before my meals arrived because the kitchen would notify them. Food was ordered at my will.

I still have another ten years stockpile of ammo and I don’t want to die owning it. The only solution is to live ten more years. I’ve already outlived my life expectancy at the time of birth The fact I’m still alive gives me an additional ten years. My goal in life is to shoot all my ammo and outlive the Social Security tables. I want to receive at least one more check than they think I have coming. It will be my final ‘sticking it to the man’ gesture.

I’ve already lived more than 20 years after retiring so I don’t really feel cheated. And I have the finances to enjoy life. Many people where I live didn’t save for retirement and now can’t afford a lot of things I can.

You aren’t even to the average age of male life expectancy yet. 76.3 years old. Only guy I know on here thats made that is Coop. Maybe you need a Martini or 2 Gene. Dont like them myself so Im probably never catchin Coop.
