Re: 2024 NASCAR
Rain ---- Xfinity race postponed again .... now scheduled to start 9PM after the Daytona 500
Re: 2024 NASCAR
Guess I wont be the only one silly enough to get out of bed in the early hours of the morning down under to find it has been postponed again.
Wonder how many drivers besides SVG would be happy to bolt on a set of wets and have at it. Just about every other series in the world runs in rain, Rain is considered the great equalizer in most motor sports, budget, horse power etc take a back seat to driver ability and some of the best races and drives have happened in the wet.
It wouldnt be your typical nascar race but the 24hr race runs the banking in the wet so the argument you cant run on the banking in the wet doesnt hold water. Personally I think it comes down to 2 reasons, nascar and fans are convinced you have to be running 200mph to put on a show and no one wants to sit in a grandstand wet and cold all day so they would be empty.

Re: 2024 NASCAR
not long ago NASCAR started bolting on rain tires when needed on some road courses ..... don't think I'll ever see that being the case on oval super speedways .... the cars are already so expensive that they require major corporate sponsors .... the vast majority of the tracks weren't designed for running on a wet surface and NASCAR fans have a long history of being willing to hang around so the race can be run on a dry track
Re: 2024 NASCAR
Mid 90's they bolted rain tires on and went racing nascars on a road course in the wet here in Aus.
Just a different attitude to it, most of the drivers had plenty of experience in other cars in the wet so when nascar started experimenting with wet tyres in the 90's first opportunity they bolted them on and went at it.
Took a long time before it happened in the main game.
Trucks did run on wets at Martinsville last year but even then if you look at what the teams and drivers were saying, nascar delayed the start to well after the teams and drivers were happy to start racing and thought it was safe to do so.
On days like the last few would love to see them give teams and drivers willing to give it a go the chance to run some demonstration laps or do some testing in the wet. Think it would speed up the development and adaptation and certainly offer a bit of entertainment for fans.

Re: 2024 NASCAR
for me the most impressive driver so far has been Kyle Busch .... not a fan of his but it amazed me how he could get around that track without the lug nut on is driver's front .... right now he's in second place

I made some poppers in the Woodfire grill and took them to our get together down here on the gulf. There is a couple people here that are crashcar fans. We had a good time the wife and I both won 50.00 each on the race and the poppers were a huge hit.

Re: 2024 NASCAR
oh well, I'd just settled in to watch the xfinity race when my girl, Hailie Deegan wiped out her Ford on lap 22 .... the replay showed not much she could have done, simply in the wrong place at the wrong time

Re: 2024 NASCAR
Well the delays, postponements and start time changes meant I was sitting on a tractor sowing forage oats. Kept a bit of an eye on the live timing but only got to watch 10min highlight packages when I got home.
The highlight packages dont really show how the races unfolded, Will be easy enough to find a full replay of the 500 but not much chance of a full Xfinity replay here in Aus.
Best I can workout SVG's race was he ran top 10 for the first 30 odd laps until someone got turned and put him into the wall, dropped a lap, got it back got back running into the top 10, made a big mistake judging if he was clear and moved up taking out another car and ended up finishing 12th.
Would have to say it was a fairly successful 1st start, one big mistake that cost someone elses race you would have to put down to inexperience. Every other car he has raced be it stock cars, open wheelers or GTs have wing mirrors and he has never raced with a spotter.
Did see one short post race interview with him where he said he really enjoyed it and he could put a lot more trust in the other drivers compared to his few laps in the ARCA race. Admitted he misjudged how much room he had moving up, was totally at fault for the contact and has a lot of learning to do.
It gives me some optimism for his season, you would think he will make the play offs with a road win, if he has that pace in his first start then by the time playoff roll around and he has 20 or so starts under his belt he might just be a genuine chance.

Re: 2024 NASCAR
every form of racing has its own set of skills that a driver must master to excel .... the number of formula 1 racers who've successfully crossed over to NASCAR is small .... the same is true for going the other direction .... it will take him a while to get things figured out .... there is no doubt as to his talent so, given time, he'll be fine
