Maureen has several out and about things scheduled for today, I don't have any

46 on its way to 59 with scattered clouds and very little wind .... one of our grandsons turns 8 tomorrow, traditional family gatherings to celebrate start later today .... the highlight will be our family going to the local Kaze Japanese Steakhouse .... its a family favorite but we don't eat there but once or twice a year

It’s 6F up from an overnight low of 4F and a high today expected to be 15F. It’s mostly sunny with a slight wind. The four inches of snow was actually closer to six and is drifting making it a foot deep at the top of my driveway.

At least I got to play on my tractor for a few hours.

18 here right now and we are looking at 30 ish for a high. Today and tomorrow are supposed to be nice with partly cloudy skies. More rain/wet snow coming Sunday.

On Wednesday we traveled south to (near) Boise Idaho to get our new pup. Had great roads all the way even going over a pass. While in our hotel room it poured rain which I knew was going to be snow on the pass we would need to cross again on Thursday. Got the pup and headed home. Roads were great all the way home including the pass that did get fresh snow. Until we got to Spokane where nearly 3” of snow fell at the perfect temp to become compact snow and ice. Figures….

Here’s a quick shot of the pup and I’ll write more about him later.

Is that White Bird? I’ve been over it dozens of times. That and the Lewiston Grade before the new highway was built.

No, Deadman Pass including the Mecham area and the Blue Mountain summit which was the highest point at 4200 ft. We went thru Tri-cities to I-84 and then east to the Boise area. (Payette actually) I wanted to stay on the interstate due to winter. The route thru Lewiston is less miles but mostly 2 lane (I believe). My first trip that direction and as expected Eastern Oregon is very desolate like Eastern Washington. I say desolate but just because there’s little forest but there is lots of farming and ranching. I’ll have to make a trip back in the spring/summer sometime.

Yeah, that old Lewiston grade was something else. Back in the day when I was a young buck a buddy and I drove it in his Gremlin. Typical of the times he had put a tiny steering wheel on his no power steering wide tired Gremlin. Needless to say he just about wore himself out making all the switchbacks.

I’ve been over Deadman many times too. Emigrant Hill is the steepest slope on all on I-84.

How well does your tractor get around in the snow with no tire chains? 4 wheel drive? Even with chains I can have a hard time getting traction on fresh snow on a slope but I know your tractor is a lot heavier than my little Cub Cadet.

It’s 4WD. I’ve gotten it stuck a few times and just use the bucket to walk me back. It’s usually the smaller front tires that spin and I just lift them off the ground with the bucket and rotate the bucket.

I don't usually report on this thread although I DO follow and enjoy it. We're experiencing a weather tease. It's been like spring here the last few days. Temps in the mid to upper 60's. Supposed to suddenly drop about 30 degrees tomorrow with high winds though. I think those winds are a result of extreme temp. changes.
