How do you like the 627 8 shot 357 Bill. I looked real hard at one not long ago
Site seems to be working OK.

Re: Can we start a handgun and long gun picture threads?
You know I say all of my guns are my favorite at one time or anothet but as far as a handgun thats just fun and easy to shoot and is really accurate over a wide range of loads it would have to be that 627.
Yeah its a PC model but we all know the the S&W Performance Center doeasnt mean what it used to mean, noe its just a stamp.
However, this 627 I think was fitted up by the last real gunsmith S&W had working there, maybe on his last few days there. Its about as smooth an action as Ive ever felt, I mean its nice. And then Ive read forym posys about other peoples 627's and they had horror stories about this or that. Me? I would trade this thing for nothing, its mine. And 8 rounds of 357mag? Yeah!
Not being hyperbolic but its probably my favorite revolver. Its only detriment is the round butt, not my preference but with the conversion grips I made for it its fine. Interchangeable front sight is simple, just push a plunger and rock it out same as the DX and Classic I think.
The double action is just right down scarey light and smoothe as butter and the single action break is like the proverbial glass rod, absolutely zero creep and I added a different overtravel stop rod and tuned it for just the right amount of overtravel, to me its dang near perfection.
Ive always liked the big ol N frames and this one, while exceptional, is no exception.
I bought the gun used and apparently got a steal on it because I didnt know much about them. Ive seen them go for a pretty good amount of money, certainly more than I paid so to me that makes the gun even better.

I made the grips. Somewhat of a hobby of mine. I made these as well.

And

Oh yeah, and these

A few more maybe

And one more, among many more

Nice work Bill. Those look really good. Smith and Wessons just don’t look right without the wood grips

Nice work Bill, especially the gloss set on the Dan Wesson.
Re: Can we start a handgun and long gun picture threads?
Hatchdog, which ones? The Koa or the macassar ebony? Its funny, the set on the redhawk and the set on the two-tone DW Silverback are actually from the same piece of wood, just a different type of finish.
BigAl52, agree 100%, I couldnt have it any other way.
Markiver, thank you for the kind words. Much appreciated.
I actually have a few other sets going right now. Jist need time to finish them.

I'd love to attempt making a set for my 686 but I don't have a clue how to even start.

Nice work Bill. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Mark I've thought about trying to make a set for my Heritage with the birdshead grip.
The back side is smooth so may be a good one for me to practice on.

That would a great candidate for a first attempt. So much easier for a SA type gun. DA's are a bit more complex, and the frame to grip fit is everything to me.

Give it a try! I think I'll research it a bit. Would be a good winter project.

Vaquero, if I can answer any questions for you Ill sure help. I may not have the answer but Ill have a good lie.
Seriously, SA grips should be well within your skills. All it takes is a bit of patience and desire. Buy yourself a nice piece of walnut, its really easy to work and takes just about any finish great. I have grip screw escutcheons I can send you, nice brass escutcheons look fantastic against walnut.

Re: Can we start a handgun and long gun picture threads?
Thanks Bill, I appreciate that.
Work slows during the cooler months great for little projects, and/or adventures.
I'm going to strip and refinish the Rossi 45 colt soon also as the other came out quite nice I think.

The DW Silverback. I really like the vertical stripping in the wood.

Yep, sometimes when one is resized it screws up.
I've had it had on here a few times and yes it is aggravating to say the least.
Couple of nice firearms any way. Thanks for sharing.
