Henry's 3 most odscure calibers, do you own one or more?

Post by Vaquero » Sat Jan 27, 2024 10:21 am

Of these three I see the 41 mag. mentioned every once in a while, but in all my surfing of the forum I don't ever remember seeing a single mention of the other two. Now I know that one member here does in fact own one of the 38-55's as I see it in his sig line.
So I'm curios as to who here owns any of the afore mentioned calibers in a Henry rifle'.
I have one 41 mag. myself.
I do own a few 35's and a 38-55 just not in a Henry.

I have never owned any firearms in those calibers and I don't recall ever shooting a firearm in those calibers.

I have a 41 but neither of the other two. Had a 35 REM in a Marlin years ago. Never owned a 38-55 but I enjoy reading Big Al and the others who shoot them.

An interesting side note, some years ago Handguns Magazine ran a piece about the five most obscure handgun calibers currently available. Well I found that I owned three of the five. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. The three I had were, 327 Fed Mag, 41 mag and 10mm. I still have the 327 and the 10mm but sold off my big boomer revolvers including the 41 mag S&W.

I have never fired any of the listed calibers either. It's a good thread question.

I'm with Steve and Dave also. Never owned or fired any. Part of that is that I like my ammo to fit two or more guns and like to stay with the more popular type.

I've got a 35 Remington in a Remington model 141 (gamemaster). It shoots well with a skinner barrel peep sight.

Hey Cowboy, I understand the more than in same cal.
I had already owned a BlackHawk in 41 mag. and the reason I wanted to add the rifle.
As stated above I own more than one 35 Rem.
And at some point may add another 38-55 to the stable.
I think a single shot maybe, probably an H&R.
As Henry WON"T make one.

I voted and I own 2 of the three. I think Randy will back me up when I say a 38-55 is one of the most pleasant straight wall rifle calibers to shoot. Its very versatile easy to load for and you could easily plink with it all day. It will hold its own taking big game. I dont shoot mine enough but when I do it always puts a smile on my face.

I don't own any of those, but I do own two Super Blackhawks in odd calibers, 30 carbine and 357 Maximum.

I came close to the 38-55. When I bought my .375 Marlin new I wanted a 38-55 but they weren't making them then. So I got a super 38-55 ie .the Marlin chambered in .375 Win. I still have it.

Hey Al, so it looks like the sole owner of a (Henry) 38-55.
How would you say it compares to other rifles chambered in the ole cal.?
Seems I remember you having another at one time.

Ive had a couple other 38-55's but currently just have the Henry and a Marlin Cowboy 38-55. The Oliver Winchester 94 I had I sold as I made double my money on it. It would only chamber starline brass as it was thinner than the Winchester Brass and the chamber was tighter at 378. Thats about where the Henry is to. At one time I had a 1893 Marlin which I wish I had not sold to a friend of mine. He ended up selling it to Cabelas and if I had of know that I would of bought it back

The most obscure I own is a 327Federal, given the short time it has been available and the fact Henry are the only manufacturer to even offer a rifle I would hazard a guess there are even less total rifles in circulation than the 3 listed.

I have a good friend that lives just south of St Louis who owns one.
I forgot about it when I made the post.
