New .357 case-hardened carbine

Post by Injun Joe » Sat Jan 27, 2024 11:23 am

It finally quit raining and snowing long enough for me to photograph my new carbine. I've been hunting for one of these for over a year.

I was lucky enough to get one with, I think, a very nice finish. BTW the QC tag in the box was stamped 12/20/23, and my purchase date was 12/28/23. These things don't sit in inventory very long.

Shoots great. Note to self: Be sure the inner magazine tube is completely locked in, otherwise it will launch itself out after you fire the first round. Firing one more round will jam the gun. (Don't ask me how I know this.)

:D Good looking overall especially the case hardening. We all can relate to your mag tube story.

Very nice indeed, never done the mag thing, but can just imagine.
And betting the facial expression would have been Priceless. ;)
Wish they offered it in the 41 mag., but hell we can't even get one with the damn sidegate. 😡🤬

That is a beautiful carbine. From those dates, they sure aren't gathering dust on the dealer shelves.

Thanks all. Maybe the mods can move this thread to the Centerfire forum where it belongs.

Yep, sounds familiar. But I’ve been able to launch the inner mag tube without firing a first round … just let your finger slip off the end of the mag tube while you’re pushing it in.

By the way, I love the case hardening on your carbine. Very nice!

Great looking carbine. I have one just like it and it took almost a year to get it. I had to contact Henry and explain that I had ordered one, paid for it and was waiting for 11 months. Store had one in 10 days. I will remember the note about the magazine tube, thanks.

Yeah the flying mag tube. Had I been more familiar with the rifle, I probably would have noticed it. As it was I ended up with a round jammed in the chamber, with the lever open (how exactly do you do that? I have no idea). The next morning at home, with a clear mind, I saw the problem and carefully tapped it out with a 1/8" flat screwdriver in the extraction groove of the cartridge. Since it was a live round, I took the precautions of making sure the barrel wasn't pointed towards anything I'd regret having a hole in, and wore safety glasses. I got it out and kept the cartridge as a souvenir.

It's a shooter, Vaquero. I went out today and put another box of ammo through it. If Gov. Murphy knew how much fun this carbine is he'd try to make it illegal. I plan to put a Skinner peep sight on it. Even with the factory sights I had no trouble destroying a bowling pin today.

Looks great ! I have one also in CCH and love the way it shoots. Let us know how it shoots for you when you get some range time.

Beautiful rifle!
Congratulations on your purchase.

CAUTION!! Henry rifles can be habit forming.

Beautiful, just beautiful. Checkering is awesome and the color case hardening is very nice. If they ever come out with the 45acp carbine I've requested several times, I'll hope that CCH is an option...

I have the same case hardened .357 w/o the side gate. It is a great little shooter. Get a lot of compliments on the indoor range I shoot at. Speaking of that range, what is really embarrassing is when one's tube goes flying while the range is hot meaning that they shut the line down while the RO retrieves it. This is while 7 or 8 guys are smiling or snickering. It is amazing how far that sucker goes when it hits a hard surface.
